Double beaded rims
« on: February 13, 2022, 04:49:39 PM »
Hello,

Does anyone know of a spoke rim with the extra bead that is required by tubeless tires?

Thanks,

In 63 Harley introduced the safety rim with a bump to hold tire on rim in case of inner tube holes.

That "safety bead" maybe the key search term.  Manufacturers wouldn't dare use the word tubeless for a tire rim that leaks air by design.

Thanks,

Flatlander,

Do you know of a model with 40 holes?   The highest count i am seeing is 38.

I'd call Buchanans and ask them.

yes, ask a good wheel builder.
i got them with 40 holes on my 550 hubs, through the builder who also laced them. they also did the tubeless conversion on them.

I bought some wider DID alloy rims for the racebike. The 2.5 front has no beads but the 3.5 rear does. I installed an OutEx kit to save weight and that has been reliable. I have suffered a rear flat while racing and it gets your attention! I'm not really sure those beads would accomplish much anyway.
