Foot peg mods. Anyone tried this yet?
« on: February 20, 2022, 08:06:09 AM »
Turns out the riding position of 76' 750F feels a little more cramped at 60 years old than when I quit riding it 20 years ago.

I want to cut the metal lump off that prevents the peg from rotating when it's bolted in place. Then rotate the peg 90degrees, moving the peg roughly one inch forward and down. I would then reweld the locator lump back on.

I also think I will need (want) to cut off the hinge portion and reorient it so it still folds up and back in the case of a fall.

Anyone tried this mod. Thoughts?

Mine had the pegs sucked in towards the engine. Apparently, the PO fancied himself a road racer. They were cut and welded quite nicely so I guess it's possible to weld the metal.

It would be nice with other pegs for a swap. I guess brake pedal can be adjusted/ hooked on different.

I got hip pain, felt as close to dislocate during acceleration on my CB750 K6.

Seat was modified and a little bit lower.  Really comfortable when I was in the 20's. Different almost 40 years later ;)

Nos harder and higher seat helped. Rear shock at highest setting was done before which helped too

I have yet to check whether I can make this mod and still get shifter and brake lever into the right spot. I think it's doable.

Being 195cm tall, I have removed the rubbers from my pegs decades ago to arrive at a slightly more comfortable riding position. There's no risk: these bikes hardly vibrate and as long as your shoe soles show some profile, you're OK. In terrain I even stand on them. Never had a foot slip away. You could grind some profile grooves in the pegs, if you must, but personally I never bothered.

I agree with the uncomfortable position as I've grown older and a bit heavier..... I used to ride cross country back in the late 70s when still in my early 20s...
I too put the stock seat back on my K6. The Cobin Gentry sits in the shed...

When I ride for a half hour or more I fold down the rear pegs and have my feet on them. I have a max of about 2 hours before my back says enough from ruptured L3 &L4.

I've been considering rear sets that a friend has to have the pedals back there too.

check Ebay for 'footpeg extender' i've used them on the valkyrie ( to no effect, the cylinders being in a stupid place was the problem)
they drop the footpeg about 40mm and can also move the pegs back or forward by the same amount
they attach to the original peg mounts ( probably need a small spacer to take up the gap as they are designed to mount to sports bike sized mounts )

i have the second type, and they didn't cost near that much, search and you may find other types and costs

obviously you're going to lose originality but by cutting/welding thats out the window anyway and if it makes for a comfortable ride who cares, the advantage of these kits is it can be put back to stock in a few minutes
i blame Terry

With the choped down backbone on my bike I was almost sitting on my heals when riding so I just removed mine and installed a set of forward controlls.

I did the opposite to move the pegs back 2" on my 74' CB550K. I actually used peg mounts from an 82' V45 Sabre because the left peg mount has a remote shifter mount on it. The V45 Sabre shift lever fit on the 550 shift shaft. It will work.
