Hey everyone, I made a post about moving to Scotland but instead I’m currently living in Sweden. Long story. Anyway, I’m looking into bringing my bikes here. ‘79 650 which is stock and my 550/650 hybrid that has a VIN from ‘78. Does Sweden allow heavily modified bikes? Have any experience registering old bikes, maybe even registering old bikes that you may have imported?

I have only 3 CB750 that were imported as new by the Honda importer.
But it should not be difficult to import when a specific model already exist in Sweden.

When you import as a vehicle you have owned  in USA, no customs and VAT.
It must be same for motorcycles.

I know people that worked in USA for 1 year and more. They imported nice cars. Good money if selling them. New muscle cars.

One guy at my company imported a Calaway Corvette he had fun with during his years there. Maybe an 1988 model. I guess he bought it new  Imported around 10 years ago.
(He is retired since a few years so he must be 70yo)

**** From link below *****
After living and using your car in the US for at least 12 months (in some cases 6 months), you can take your car home as a "moving item" without paying either customs or VAT.

-This might be different if you are are not a Swedish citicen or not.
I guess the site below can answer that if contacting them. But it must be seen as your belongings you bring when moving to Sweden.

Here about importing cars. Use a browser with translation. I guess you can contact them in english as a first step.
https://scanlinkcars.se/bilar/bil-som-flyttsak/

Here the Swedish Transport Agency.
https://transportstyrelsen.se/en/road/Vehicles/

They  have the registration part and see vehicle inspection status.

Both my running bikes are classic bikes, veterans so no longer need of vehicle inspections. You need one.

My K2 back on the road 2019, K6 last inspection 2018. Both looked stock with 4-4. My K6 had billet block and around 93 whp then. No problems! ;D

Ensurance cheap as a classic bike. Full ensurance around $60US/year. I asked  for a more expensive to my K6 and got $100US/year. I do not know if that will pay more if bike disappear that I never want to happen.
They do not know that my K6 with registrated 63 crank hp has 104whp ;D
For me its only safer.

You need to have a swedish social number and swedish registration on the bike.

Thanks Per, I will check out these links! Right now I’m in Söderbärke which is about an hour west/north west of you. Small town. I’ve gone to IKEA in Västerås a few times as I needed to fill up the house. I didn’t see any old Hondas riding around but next time I’m down there I’ll keep an eye out!

I am actually a dual American/Swedish citizen (I was born in Malmö) and I am getting my personnummer activated through Skatteverket. That should be coming in the mail in the next few weeks.

Good information, I was in Scotland and researching the same thing and apparently it’s harder to have modified vehicles there. So far Sweden seems to be similar to the states as far as cheap insurance and being more relaxed for older vehicles. The stock 650 will pass inspection with flying colors but the 550/650 hybrid may have trouble if they want things like rear signals at a certain height and distance from each other, or a max decibel level of exhaust, rear fender, etc. But I will have to find a list of the requirements and see how that goes. I could add things on temporarily to satisfy that perhaps.

If I get this going soon maybe we could get a ride in sometime.

Tack så mycket!

OK, Söderbärke is not far away from me 92 km.
Perfect for rides. 1 hour or so on fun roads cruising.
Nice country roads with views around there!
Be aware of animals, more hogs and deers nowadays.

Women are passengers even when they sit behind the steering wheel!! Danger!!

The road 66 goes south via road 250 to a small village called Färna. My latest low  bike food place, kebab.

I'll check were to refuel 98 (E5) octane.
Shell V-Power is the standard for my bikes and car.

There will be nice bike and car meets every Monday starting May 9,  2022, unless Covid restriction will change .
 https://maps.app.goo.gl/NBYuUyd5QL9fVbGr8

No meetings last year.
Lots of vintage cars, US muscle cars and sport cars  like Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis,  Mclarens.

Plus a bunch of bikes of all kinds.
It is a kind of free after work event usually starting at 5pm. Better to be there 4-4:30  before queues.

Another place to meet and eat burger ever Wednesdays  May -September from 5 pm, most comes an hour later.
http://www.mashedkidneys.se

https://maps.app.goo.gl/QeZacYnZbRcGuiTs6

They usually start in the end of May. Can be 25th.
They will announce that on their webpage.  The event is called Fikaträffen.
Depending on weather it can come between 5 - 100 bikes. Lots of Harleys, Victory.

And we will meet when weather is OK and can visit one of the places above or when cruising around. ;D

Sounds excellent! Yes, Route 66 is nice and I’ve taken it up to Ludvika a few times. I’ve seen the metal groups of men playing instruments or whatever they’re doing on the sides of the road too, haha.

And good to hear about the E5. I have only seen E10 which is the standard back home in Connecticut. But the less ethanol the better. Is non-ethanol rare around here?

There is no non-ethanol. 98 octane the only choice.
I have read that Shell V-Power contain max 5%, most likely less.

Gas station apps for phone is a good thing to see where 98 is a avilable. Too many have only 95, E85 and Diesel.

There are a nice place in Ludvika where they sell huge wrapped bubble waffle filled with ice cream.
Buildings look like an old place not far away from a lake with a park.
Cafe other side of the road going thru the city.

I did not try it then, just saw it. Wife brought thermos and sandwiches in a backpack.

Yeah I’ll look for an app to check out gas stations. I’m not an ice cream or sweets guy but I’ll still take any ride offer, haha.

And I just got my PN activated so I’m good to move forward with a lot of other stuff I have in my list.

Sweet stuff is not my thing either. Ice cream when weather is sunny and around 30C.
But a nice lunch is never wrong during a ride. ;D

Not only shrimp sandwiches on the menues.

There are several nice roads that begins in Söderbärke. Heading to Kopparberg passing by fantastic fishing lakes.

Ängelsberg another good place to visit. It has cafe and restaurant with view over a lake and an island, called oil island.
Just beside where a huge forest wildfire burnt down a large area of dense forest 2014. Still great views but new trees growing like weed, birch
They got help from Italy that have special water bombing airplanes.
I often pass that place during my rides. Stop at the cafe there not often.

I hope only one month left!
I prefer at least +15C.

Some inspiration for coming season! ;)

Gula Hästen in Strömsholm.
Not only burgers as my choice.

(100m further behind this place a very popular cafe with tables outdoor, "Markententeriet". When weather is good lots of bikers here.)

Borgåsund 1km after along same road has 2 places.
"Borgåsund fiskaren" to the left and Hamnkafeet less then a km after to the right crossing the railroad.

#
#

#
Hamnkafeets rear side to the lake.

Another nice cafe for a longer ride, 145 km away from me but not that far from Söderbärke is in Torsång beside a wide river, Dalälven. This is located a little south from Borlänge, about 10 minutes.

Looks amazing, I can’t wait to ride. Just looking at your 750 makes me antsy. I haven’t ridden or seen my bikes in person since November 2020. Glad I drained the fuel and fogged the tanks.

No idea how long it’ll take to get my bikes here but I honestly expect the earliest to be after the summer. There’s a lot of things to do first.

Possible to find another bike if fundings are available  8)

Ludvika: https://fottasmc.se/fordon/
I have never been there, found it now. Can be worth a visit when riding on the nice windling roads. Not to long on the from me too straight 66.

Avesta might not be that close but not that far either. A BMW shop I usually visit a few times each year since I refuel at the Shell gas station nearby at most of my rides.
https://www.lundgrensmotor.se/?motorcyklar

A little bit more far away.
Sulas MC between Enköping and Uppsala. I have stopped by a few times to drool on their $$$$$ Indians  8)
They have a shop in Strängnäs too.

No bikes in the garage, no reason to not have a bike summer!  ;D
