There is a member "Mo", but he hasn't been active since 3-4-16, and I don't recall him? Member "MoMo", or Larry, who was formerly known as photolar, or something similar until his grand-kid renamed him hasn't been active since 12-12-19. I hope he is OK...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned buying the proper hose, and putting a braided cover on it like this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/spe-3008b?rrec=true
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Mo is short for Mohammad, I believe to be his name. I could not recall his forum name at the time.

He rebuild his bike using as many [expensive] NOS parts as he could source, it was for sale but dont think he ever sold it?

he still has it...he posted a picture last fall.  I have seen the bike in person and it is spectacular.  Especially for a first timer amateur restoration.  It runs and rides as it should also.

Oil hose update:
I got the first Aeroquip hose. It has the same too-stiff stainless-steel braid as the others, not a good candidate (another $125 down the tube. :( ).
There is another hose that seems to meet the same description of this one, BUT with a nylon overbraid instead of steel. So, I ordered some of that just now, will see how that works next.

But isn't the problem the steel hose itself under the braid or am I confusing something?

No, you have it right: the steel-reinforced hoses (with a layer of steel braid inside AND outside) are too stiff. This makes them slowly 'work' their crimp rings at the ends where they are crimped to our fittings, each time the hose heats up and cools down. The rubber stuff doesn't expand enough to matter, but the steel does. Over time this forces the crimp rings to open a little, then they leak. I've seen this pattern develop on almost all of the steel-covered versions of these hoses. While I'm sure Honda didn't invent the hose they used, I've never been able to find their vendor. I'm sure it is an automotive hose of some type, probably from a [then] hi-end Japanese car maker, maybe someone like Toyota Crown in those days.

If the link dies - do a search for 10AN 5/8 Nylon Braided Line

Should get you on the right track.

How has it worked out so far? If it's good, I'll get some, as I have the crimper, crimps, and a few sets of the end fittings.

Well I just put them on last week and only started the bike a few times but they hold pressure fine and don’t leak.

I’m not sure what else I could ask for.

I should have the bike road worth for its first ride next week.

I can report back after I get a few rides in.

Isn't the 5/8" ID a bit loose on the spigots ? Probably not an issue with the crimps. Are you doing the crimping yourself?

I had them done at a local hydraulic shop.

They don’t stock braided nylon but told me if I supplied the line they would crimp em for me.

They told me what size to buy.

Seems to fit just fine.

I used 10AN nylon and stainless steel braided lines from Summit Racing and neither have kinked or leaked after years of use.  I have used crimpers for some and the clamps for others and never had problems with either method.  The problems with kinking is a concern but I have seen genuine Honda lines kink.  IMHO, the reason they kink is they were too long when they were made.  Even Honda was not 100% consistent when they made these hoses.

In the 70's Honda paid for quite few new cranks and rebuilds due to bad hoses

Since I am currently working on a K1 project, I ordered 10 feet of nylon braided 10AN hose.  This stuff came from China but it looks just like the original hose to me.  I even measured it and the outside diameter it is the same size (within half a millimeter).  The original may be very slightly bigger.  I believe it will work just fine.  Here is a link to what I ordered.

one hose sprung a leak a few years back and just ordered 10an SS braided hose and hose connector with pipe clamps on amazon. looks really similar to oem and been running on this setup since with no leaks or issues whatsoever.

posted this picture before...left is with the connectors, right is oem.
