Another K0 build for/by Magpie/Cliff
« on: March 15, 2022, 09:27:06 AM »
I recently purchased a red 1970, 1/70, K0 CB750 that has been partially restored. The previous owner sold everything he had along with a restored 1981 CBX. My garage is now officially full.
The K0 looks the same as my first CB750  I bought new in July 1969 and crashed into the door of a car that ran a stop sign. The bike was a write off.
It seems a good idea to do restoration of the new bike to honour the first  I had and that started my journey down the rabbit hole of CB750's. So, I'll post my progress and hope to live up to the excellent build threads being posted.
The 1969.

The 1970 in it's current state. I'm told it has a 836 kit, lots of new parts, a Yamiya body kit and more. A box of parts from David Silvers is due to arrive tomorrow. It's a far better starting point than I have had on previous builds.

Eventually the exhaust will go back to stock. I'm a pensioner now so I'll have to save up a bit. ;D ;D ;D

Received a K0 tank badge from BenelliSEI, thanks very much. It needed a bit of a touch up.
2 boxes of stuff from David Silvers arrived today. Rim, spokes, front fender, gas tank trim.
Before

After, top one is NOS.

Nice job on the badges. It took me 4 tries to refinish the white with black background badges on my 74' 550K0. When I screwed up I soaked them in brake fluid to strip them and start over again the next day.

Stev-o, yes I will put a new Honda system on it. It's not being done up for resale, just for my pleasure (I don't sell my bikes) so it deserves to be stock looking. There's a number of non-stock things on it I have to decide what to do with - K1 type carbs, later switches, small things, allen/socket head screws, spin on oil filter. Most of the black bits are powder coated. Cliff.
I just priced out a complete exhaust system from David Silvers, $3011US plus shipping which is $3795 Can. Wow. Have to sell my Pathfinder.  ;D

They are currently sold out but Yamiya sells a complete set for about 1450usd - plus about 140 to ship.

Still not cheap!  But not crazy.

To my knowledge Yamiya hasn't had any in the last year. I see $1975 at DSS and then a few hundred for bolts and shields. If you need new clamps and hardware, I can see that total.
I got a set of the 341's from CMSNL last year, I ended up around $1800 but their inventory comes and goes. If the no number pipes were $1400 again, I'd get a set and put these 341's on my brothers K4.
Webike removed the listings for their 4-4 exhausts. They do have a handmade 4-4 racing type exhaust similar to an old style Yoshimura.

Finally created enough room to take the CBX and K0 out of the trailer and get the K0 on the lift. Parts orders arrived so I need to carve some time out of the renovation schedule for it.

Ahh yes, they seem to be out of a few things with no foreseeable replenishment of stock.

Looked closely at your last photo. A few details to attend to, but that is one clean, neat bike!

Replicas. The paint is a much deeper red than in the photo. The more I look at it the more I see I need to do. Notice the clutch cover?

Painted like the engine? Funny about the cap screws. I used to use them all the time, but my last 3-4 projects have all been back to original hardware.....

Yes, a friend of mine has given me a lot of static about the cap screws. I'll probably change them out eventually. I'll dig out another clutch cover today. It's all in the details. The guy that painted the motor also painted the little vibration dampeners between the fins. That bugs me. Cliff.

Cliff..... I have a bag full of those rubber spacers for the head. Not new, but they clean up well with “Fantastic” and a tooth brush. How many do you need?

WideAWAKE, I found a receipt for the duck tail seat from https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=cb750+seat&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=cb750&_osacat=0  Cliff.

I appreciate that! But I click the link and it just takes me to a general search for cb750 seat.

Paperwork doesn’t happen to list the seller on it does it???

It’s hard to tell on a lot of the pics, what seat has the right details or not.
