Cam Tower Wear
« on: April 06, 2022, 03:55:16 PM »
As seen in the photos, there is what looks like a bit of wear. When I run my finger and tip of my nail over it, there doesn't seem to be anything catching, but I can slightly feel the difference in texture from the wear. Is this tolerable? Should I sand it lightly with a very fine grit or replace the towers altogether? I'd rather not replace them if I don't have to.

Edit:   I ended up just taking some extra fine emery cloth and lightly going over it and it got rid of those "wear" marks or whatever you would call them!  Last pic shows after emery cloth.

I did! I made sure to clean the entire tower with dawn soap and hot water after then blew co.pressed air into each hole, including the small pinholes!

Be sure to add some of the (usually red) cam bearing lube in the journals when dropping in the cam. These will wear downward over time, requiring the cam chain adjustment to remove the slack that develops in that chain (along with the chain's wear) as the cam's bearings mate.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Good to note, I definitely will, thank you!
