76 cb750 seat bracket weirdness
« on: March 22, 2022, 07:00:47 PM »
Bought a new seat from David silver spares to replace the atrocity if a seat that was on there and realized no hinge brackets...
Went back and they only had a rear hinge listed on the site. Emailed and they said they were the same and didn't know why it said rear

They arrived and I installed but something seems wrong. If you open the seat all the way the chrome seat trim comes in contact with the top of the shock...what the heck s going on?

I’ve had this problem. Start by making sure your seat sits all the way to the left (seated on the bike), when latched. Is it level? Sometimes “straightening” the brackets will get the right side a bit higher, so it clears the shock when opened. In one case, I did make a pair of shims to go between the seat and the brackets (1/8” Alloy). My K1 frustrated me on this a few years ago when I stumbled on a brand new Honda seat, in the box. It looks fantastic, but totally fouls on the shock top. I’m careful, and remove it when working on the bike!

I tried loosening them and wiggling around a bit still no dice. Seemed to fit on the rails perfectly . I might have to check into shimming. My 73 cb750 seat sits about 1/4 inch higher from the shock but the hinges look exact same. Might have to take apart both again and compare.
