I've done some tire marks in the driveway on the old tires. I've been busy with family things but hope to find some time to swap a plate and ride this evening.
Yesterday after putting the front wheel back on, I did a short test ride. When I got back to re-check the chain, brakes and etc, it blew a fuse in the driveway. The fuse was intermittently working like someone posted recently when I checked, it came out in pieces. I had a 20 but I need to get a 15 and make sure I have a proper spare. I'm not sure how much the Gerex ignition and aftermarket coils use, it has to be more than stock and maybe more than a Dyna.

I only promised the PO wouldn't see all of his stuff on ebay next week.

I posted the pic on F/B and was amazed at the guys from here that saw it and liked the pic. also that Russ Collins Jr. saw it and liked it.
Maybe I can get in the shop tomorrow, put on the Daytona seat and drag rear fender, finish checking my work so I can go for a real ride.
I'm also uncomfortable riding with no turn signals. I'm going to need to put some on it with a left control also. I looked for the horn button and signal switch on the last ride. Those things are ones Honda got right.

I put the black Daytona seat on it and got the drag bike rear fender with the lucas type taillight on it off the old drag bike frame. I had to make a license plate bracket, drill and tap to attach it, grind light clearance in the casting, replace the somehow broken taillight, (I had already bought a new one) make a ground wire and finally make jumper wires for the light and brake.

I did not realize how F'n tall the hump looks on that seat. There should be a tool box in there like a Guliari. lol. Maybe with a person in a crouch at the track it's aerodynamic.

The seat can have a compartment for needed stuff like food, beers, small tent, clothes, personal stuff for overnighting ......

L0L! I noticed the speedo drive was turned, apparently more nut and bolt (and axle) tightening is in order.
The speedo cable fell apart when I was swapping the front wheel, I also noticed the tach cable was too long and replaced it with a new one I hadn't used on a different project. Then I realized the cable that was on the tach fit on the speedometer.

I got the axle snugged up, a bearing must have been loose and popped into place.

I'm wondering how much of, or if the exhaust smoking is caused by the 29 carbs being rich. I suspect the gerex will fire a fairly wet fuel mixture. Some plug reading and the O2 sensor may be called for here.
The O2 gauge gave some possibly erroneous readings before, or the 4-1 to 4-4 exhaust swap made a huge difference. I did end up near stock jetting even with the 836, cam and port job.

That's the Gerex ignition box, an early version of MSD type. It was mounted above the oil cooler, looks better there but I'm told the heat isn't good for them.

I rode it to the Dyno shop today, Watched them tune up a Fiero with a supercharged GXP engine, then hit the industrial road out back. The bike is fast, shifts easily but the clutch is really grabby. I didn't get a launch that I was happy with.
The other bike from the same guy had the plus 1 or 2 clutch kits with the red fibers and copper coated plates. I have not been inside this one yet. If it is, I may swap it out for a later model stock clutch basket with the gl plate and stock clutches in it.
If I'm going to street ride, it needs turn signals of some sort even if they are LED strips stuck on the shocks and forks.

Those red fiber clutch plates don't like to progressively modulate like the stock clutch plates.

That was what I was thinking when I rode it. My best shift were clutchless, I'd assume the trans is back cut since his other bike was also. I probably had a quarter mile total to work with so may have gotten an 1/8 plus. It seeps a bit of oil and smokes at idle. Could be fuel and oil.
I'm ordering all the soft parts I can get and choke plungers for the 29's.

I ordered 4 sets of items from niche-cycle for the 29 smooth bores. I hope they are Decent Mikuni parts. Choke plungers and associated rubber parts. I read a symptom of leaky choke plungers is running rich so at least I have them on the way and will see if it makes any difference.
I can't really tell if the smoking is blue or black. I haven't re-packed the baffle yet. I don't mind the sound and don't want the packing holding anything corrosive in the RC exhaust.

Don, you could read the plugs to see if the smoke is oil or fuel...or both? Also, I am thinking smell will give a good hint. Generally too, in my experience, fuel smokes more with throttle open, oil smokes with throttle closed.

With the throttle open I was afraid to look back. Just kidding. A little.
I notice it at idle when returning from a ride but my wife asked about the smoking going down the street. I really expect it to need a rebuild but will continue to ride it just to see. The leakdown test on all four looked pretty good. Compression on one and four was good.
I'm hoping the transmission problem was why the PO stopped riding it in 87, that's fixed already. He was interested in my reports of progress and what I found. He thanked me and said it was interesting, he remembers a few things at a time.

I also need to remember I have some seafoam and a couple oz of 2 stroke oil in the gas and a 1/2 dose of Marvel M.O. in the oil. I also topped off the tank with a gallon of the av gas/ race gas that was stored in the dragster fuel tank over winter. Stuff smells good. The octane should be sufficient.
It's quite a stew of chemicals, I hope to get a few miles on it soon. The race car, rain and family things are keeping this old Dad hopping.
That 140/80 radial rear tire clears everything easily, I could have gone 150 I think. It looks low profile like a new 18" car tire.

At least a few possibilities L0L. I used the additives because of the smoke, so it was there. I'm just going to try and enjoy it for the summer. I'll use it for a pit bike, and maybe make a lap or two.

I did about 30 miles today but can't ride this drag bike thing on the street with no turn signals. My left thumb says to make turn signal go on, but it isn't there. I've got the clutch in so can't hand signal, a guy waved me to go first today at a stop sign, won't deal with that again.
I already added the right control because I was uncomfortable with no start, headlight and kill button within easy reach.
I'm not sure how many ounces I'll add to the total weight with 4 turn signals and a left control and don't care. I ordered a left control and rear mounts. It still needs rear mount rubbers 4-1 doesn't have them.
Ratty turn signals will be fine on the barn bike, I also have a set of short stem red lens rears on a sissy bar mount.
