The clutch seemed to be draggy, it goes into gear OK but under power it's a little crunchy on the shifts. Clutchless shifting seems much smoother so I'm guessing it's the plates dragging. I can't work in the shop for a while due to a no lifting rule my surgeon gave me. I think I have a clutch pack with stock plates and the GL double disc.  when I can I plan to put that one in.

The doc OK'd me to mow. Next Thursday I may be done with him. I'm hoping to swap out the clutch during my down time but I'll have to work off the floor. I'm not risking trying to get it on the lift. Maybe I can get a son in law to stop here.

Lift is not needed for home use. I have not, take too much space.
I have 2 foldable plastic stools.
Ca 450 vs 220 mm high.
Parts and tools never placed on the floor, plastic things for boots.
No dirt nor sand to stick on parts or tools. Old oven trays work fine too. Deeper model for oil.

Thanks guys, I'm just thinking out loud about how to best accomplish something with current limitations. It's been two weeks already and I want to move forward but can't lift anything heavier than my coffee cup. That rules out my battery impact but I need to be active also.
My wife worked at a gas station and broke down split rims when she was in high school so I'm betting she'll give me a hand.

It is, I've considered raising it a bit but so far, it's a challenge getting used to working while seated.

After some thought during my surgery induced down time, I concluded that I often jump to conclusions based on a bit of information that I know and a few things I assume. When I assumed the motor was tight/stuck, it had a dead battery and the struggle kicking it is normal high compression kick starting and my lack of experience doing it. That led me to do a ring job which it for sure, needed anyway.
I've thought about a new wiring harness, but it may be fine if I can get it moved forward where it belongs. I hesitate to remove the original unused ignition wiring because who knows if the Gerex will hold up long term?
I agree with CycleX where Ken mentioned the 17/48 sprockets may be replaced with higher ratios if the engine makes enough power to pull it. I have a new 18 tooth front I'll swap onto it.

I ordered a morgan carbtune, it's hard to believe I never had one. My brother gave me a mercury tube manometer once but it was broken and the mercury is in his garage. I handed it back.
The Sandcast needs adjusted badly, I may learn on another bike before checking it out though.

I bought 8 clutch discs off of Ebay today. The seller posted the Honda part number, I'm hoping that's what they are. I got 8 because that's how many he had.

Don..... I had to read that twice! Will be interested what you think when you try it (Carbtune)?
My old MotionPro unit is getting well used and the regular cleaning, drying and fluid replacement (after my sonand various friends borrow it), is a pain. Like the look of the Morgan unit... Get better fast!

I also bought two of the wide top slant cork discs, shipping was a dollar more so, I realize I have the late model clutch basket and a set of steels that still have the dimples in them, I seem to be missing the wider clutch body., the one I have is gl1000.  I got a pretty good offer for a full clutch and K7 transmission on ebay. That would make an entire late clutch for the Rat Race and trans parts for repairing the F'nK, although I really don't want to split the cases on it.

I thought I had read it was the 77/78 that had the longer baskets and different clutch covers?

I gave my K6 an F2 clutch.
No problem since the primary hub is the same, circlip that lock the steel basket in place.

Maybe possible to do this upgrade on an earlier primary hub without circlip? (K5 and earlier). Only a wider splined washer.

The later clutch with the double riveted metal disc with springs is an upgrade.

Clutch feels more stable than my K6 that used same setup of clutch discs, slanted outer with wider tabs. (EBC)

I use the K6 cover. It look as the F2 cover I had prepared removing the black paint and added vent nipple for hose, 1/8 NPT thread. Saved for another build.

I have the longer basket and cover, the aluminum hubs are deeper I'm not positive that it can be swapped without changing the cush drive. I have the F2 clutch in a k6 case, I need to re-visit that one.

My Morgan carbtune that was listed as being in Ca. shipped from Hawaii. I'm hoping it isn't a China made clone like my Chibson Les Paul guitar.

Today it got 18/48 sprockets, I should have left the chain a bit longer, I lost a little of the longer swingarm. I plugged the chain oiler with a case plug from a junk and waterlogged T350 Suzuki. It got a dose of blue Loctite gel in place of the lock tab. The aftermarket chain guard also got the customary shock clearance notch.
Next up is a clutch examination. I have new Honda clutch discs on the way.
The Morgan carbtune is out for delivery so hopefully I'll be a balance guru in no time flat.

Today my "Honda" clutch discs came. 8 were in a Ziplock bag with the Honda number on it, the other two from a different dealer are the late type wide tab genuine slant cork discs. I noticed on the 8 the clutch material or adhesive has squeezed out onto the tabs and they won't go into the F2 clutch basket. Of course in my haste to assemble it I had already oil soaked them. I had to sand the outside diameter of 72 tabs and 144 edges and clean the grit off of each one. They do fit into the F2 basket now. I left them in the oil and came back in.
Update, the F2 clutch is in, with the K6 clutch cover, all new discs and some really nice plates. I used the small spline washer that usually sits behind the snap ring on a late clutch. It's odd, the basket appears to be the same depth except the tabs stick out more, the lifter is the same but the clutch hub is deeper as is the side cover. The lever pull is harder, I may take out the plug washers that are under the springs.
Test ride #3 soon. I'll take the same route and see if it makes it now that the charging system is connected.

I swapped the sticky caliper for a rebuilt one. I realized I had forgotten the piece between the piston and the pad. Then I also noticed I had a mixed set of pads. I opened the bleeder and put a drain hose on it into the brake fluid disposal bottle but when I compressed the piston, fluid still shot out of the M/C. I did think to cover the tank with a towel but DANG. What a mess. I got the spray wax out and wiped everything down.
I hate brake fluid, you would think there would be a good paint safe replacement, and yes, I know about silicone, been there and didn't like that.
