Gilmore Bike Ride 2022
« on: June 11, 2022, 02:01:34 PM »
Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners Michigan has a vintage bike ride on Saturday and bike show on Sunday every year. Wasn't going to go this year but woke up this Saturday morning early to beautiful weather and said to myself why the hell not. A neighbor asked me to ride with him earlier in the week so phoned him and said I'm in.Always a good time and fun seeing old friends and making some new.The ride seemed to have more bikes and riders this year though some familiar faces were missing. Swap meet seemed a little larger also. Dropping the wife at the airport Sunday for an Alaskan trip she has planned so going again is out but glad I did the ride.
A few bikes that were there. Of note is the nice Kaw 900 Z1 in original Root Beer paint with 29500 on the clock and 10,000 range serial number. The original owner is still with it and went on the ride !  Cool stuff-
Hey I recognize that green 750 -  :D The guy with the gray hair and pony tail standing close to his red Harley in the background is my country neighbor Gene I rode in with.

Saturday morning was basically the opening bell and there were some parts bikes around, seemed like more dirt and enduro then road bikes. Some Harley but a lot of Jap and some other just antique things like oil cans and other collectibles. I was surprised by a friend of mine who has a large stash of bikes that he had already sold a blue Kawasaki S3 350 triple with a title but no spark with cleaned carbs and lookin' pretty nice to another 'dealer'. Think he felt a little sellers remorse for what he let it go for as I also thought he could of got a little more. Did not know he even owned one  :D  I bought a few 750 things that would fit in to my saddlebag from a person who I think may have been a man but now had breasts and was transitioning. Its all good nowadays. Might have been more aggressive if I had 4 wheels instead of just 2.

Good Ole' Norm Smith was riding his 750 instead of a Kaw 550 we have seen him on before Sean. It still has its period 'old school' paint job that we can both appreciate.  ;)   :D

I commented Kevin on that big trip you just took with a pack of 750's. Lotsa miles and sounds like good times with good friends.

It would be something to do a home and home with John DeMaria Benelli & Co. at Ganaraska and Gilmore on consecutive weekends.

I was disappointed that I couldn't get my bike sorted to bring it up this weekend. I did make it over to the show on Sunday afternoon just as they were handing out the awards. Some beautiful bikes as always.

Are you talking about the Suzuki GT750 Steve ?  That particular bike was looking and sounding very nice. I was surprised when I looked at the speedo and it was showing over 70,000 miles on the clock. I have seen GT750's with big miles on them in the past. Engines run on these for a very long time unlike some two-strokes. The RG500 was riding up ahead of me and sounded like a swarm of angry bee's when he would get on it a little. The GS1150 was a sharp looker also with less then 18,000 miles and is something on my bucket list.
