Broken metal on carb lever

On my ‘78 CB500 K3 with 649A carbs there is a piece of metal connecting the throttle arms on carbs 1+2 and 3+4.
What is the purpose of this and does it make a difference that one of them are broken on my bike?

This part on my 550 are bent, but not broken. Not sure with out testing or experience but it would indicate to me that the carbs stick or are out of sync causing them to flex as throttle as throttle settings are changed.  I did not see this when I had them apart 3 years ago. :o

I'm going to replace mine, re-balance, then monitor for issues.

Thanks for the heads up to look for this issue.

I think its just to try and keep the links in line, your carbs will work happily without it and Honda never sold it as a seperate part but i have seen them advertisedas aftermarket parts.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

You could probably make a new one easily out of stainless sheet metal or an old feeler gauge.  Use the intact one as a template.

You can fabricate a piece from thin metal as suggested to replace. The reseller 4into1 sells a set of these for $8US normally, yet are presently O/S. If you do any carb work they are good to have on hand for times when they do break.

This is to keep the adjustment locking nuts from vibrating loose and then the adjustments changing, it works like lockwire - no sane person would attempt lockwiring those tiny nuts. No other purpose.
Should be there, but are not critical. You can make them pretty easily, hobby shop brass sheet is what I use for little things like that.
