USA cb750 Title Info
« on: April 01, 2022, 07:40:00 AM »
My latest project was originally titled in Detroit, Michigan. I have an original copy of the paperwork. Anyone know a firm or way of getting any history on the bike? Thanks!

Can't help ya John, but brings up a question.

Why doesnt Canada have titles for vehicles?

Helped a buddy import a '60 Chevelle from British Columbia and now want to get a Texas title for it.  Paperwork nightmare!  With a title, it is a easy transfer at the DMV, but without, there are many extra steps including an inspection at a local law enforcement agency.

Michigan maintains records for 7 years for vehicles with a current plate, after 7 years all records are deleted.
Any history comes from prior owners, ask the guy you bought it from how long he owned it and who he brought it from, then follow the chain.
Is the registration from the previous owner or before ?

I was so lucky with my sandcast I couldn't believe it. At the estate sale where I got it, we were loading it in my truck and Charlie a local bike shop owner came by to check it out. I mentioned someone told me it was Gene Stoneking's old bike. He said no sh1t? That's Gene's bike? I remember the day Gene bought it because I was a young guy working at the Honda shop while home on leave before going to Vietnam and the boss let me assemble the first two 750's. 2 years later he saw the blue green one in the showroom and took it home, he still has it.

Steve.... we do have titles/ownership. In fact I have this bike registered, in my name, with the Ontario DMV. I always do that first, had a bad surprise years ago.....

My latest project was purchased as a “parts bike” for the chopper I restored last year. Pete (the chopper builder/owner, never touched it other than losing the carbs and “borrowing” a starter motor. He bought it from the motor shop around the corner from Carlini Cycle Creations. I think the place was called Hensley Performance (Gary Hensley?). The MI title expired 1987. I was just curious if I could learn anything from it.

I understand you have it registered, but you have a title as well?

In Texas, we have both but dont neither to carry either one.  [each state may vary]

I was hoping also that you do not think that the paperwork is an official Michigan title.
