Got my cases prepped and painted.

3 coats of duplicolor 1615 and 2 coats of 2k clear.

Bottom end is back together and pistons are all prepped and ready with ring gaps all set to .012”

Also got my starter apart, cleaned and ready for install once I clean up the wiring a bit on the outside.

What I was getting at was that I can get the same parts, cheaper and faster quite often from the other side of the planet than I can from 3 states away.

Well I’ve got the barrels back on, the cam in and rockers on.

I ended up swapping out a few of the rockers that I didn’t think were up to snuff. They all seemed to polish up quite nicely.

The only thing I did run across was when putting my cages on, someone along the line drill and threaded inserts into most of the threads and they almost all backed out when I tried to tighten them down.

So it all came back apart and I redid the inserts.

The cam is all set and ready to be timed whenever I get some time next.

Hopefully get this motor back in the frame real soon.

Also started cleaning and polishing some motor bits.

I’d also like to thank everyone for helping me diagnose my motor and get me squared away.

I was just gonna put it back in the bike initially because it ran, but I’m glad I got it all apart and sorted out.

Done that many times in the past, unfortunately my bike is already a complete roller just waiting for the motor to go in. Not gonna risk that haha.

On a side note, can anyone confirm that this washer goes on the the starter gear here??? Seems it may be a spacer on the back side??? The parts drawings show it on the outside like this and I can’t find any other references

It's been a couple years since I had mine off but that does look familiar. I might get around to pull off the cover tomorrow on my engine I'm taking apart.

As it sits it would be resting against the gear which first quite seem right but that’s how it’s shown in the parts drawings.

Probably the harness that connect to alternator windings.  3 yellow + field coil.

Well I got the motor in the bike.

Went full hillbilly but it was pretty easy. No damage to the frame or motor so that was a plus.

Also finished the last bit of painting I had to do. I couldn’t find a 3 hole air box that was painted so I figured I’d just do that myself. A bit of a pain getting the amount of green/blue correct but I eventually got there. It was just a process of spraying and checking color, adjusting, checking inside and outside.

I think it should fly.

SWEET paint job!
I've always wanted mine in that color, never been able toget it there.

You have the starter-gear washer in the correct way: it goes on the outside of the starter gear.

I am trying to fit my air box and there is no way it’s gonna fit.

When I got the bike it had a K1 air box so I’m guessing my carb to head boots may be for a k1 which I’m pretty sure is my problem.

From what I can gather, the K0 had a different boot at the head, although I can’t confirm what the difference is.

Can anyone confirm that that may be my problem.

Or any anyone give me a solid advise on how I need to go about getting my early airbox to fit with later carbs.

I would also imagine my rubber velocity stacks in the air box are from a K1 as well.

K0 carb boots are shorter to the head spigot that must be shorter on K0 head than the later.

I got wrong boots in the 80's when ordering new for my K6, got the earlier for K0.  Found as wrong over 20 years later, too late to complain ;)

I got a set of k0 boots on order.

There must be something different about the alignment of the airbox as well.

These carbs and boots were on this bike when I got it. It just had a later airbox.

I was able to get it sorted.

I didn’t think I would be able to adjust the angle of the boots and still get the carbs on but I was able to.

No idea how to tell if my current boots are K0 or later. Well I know the sticker is shorter, so I’m assuming that side is different, just don’t know any measurements.

The angle of the boots sticking in the airbox is the thing.
I wrestled with the airbox on my K2 a few years ago. I found a few threads on this forum with photos. The airbox ears had to match frame.

I have my K0 inlet boots and newer.
Here my old K0 rubbers I got 1988 vs later.

I can confirm my boots are later style. Getting it all in there was a tight squeeze.

I still have some K0 boots on the way so when they get here I’ll swap em out.

I think it all may fit a bit better that way.

Well she fired right up!

Has a slight hang when coming back to idle. I have yet to vacuum synch the carbs so I’m guessing that should solve the issue.

I’ve never heard one of these in person, I seem to have a very faint “crinkle” noise. I set the valves but have yet to double check em after I fired it up but it also doesn’t sound like tappets. Also have not confirmed the timing is correct, just put it back to where it come off when I got it.

I will get to all those things next week but yeah. First start she seems pretty healthy.
