Well I got it out for a first ride the other day and it seems I got a buy of an issue with my clutch. Seems to be draggin. Measured up ok when I put it back together but I’ll get it apart for another look at it.

And thanks to Stev-o I finally got a chain guard! The last piece of the puzzle. A little scrubbing, wet sand and polish and it cleaned up quite nicely. Very happy.

So hopefully I can get it sorted out and ready for good rides this weekend.

Looking at your pictures and videos (end of page 4), your clutch cable looks tight between the handle and your the loop going between the gauges. There should be a little more cable in between there so it isn't so taunt. That might be the factor in your clutch dragging.  Is it routed correctly down below the gauges or is it just a shorter cable length?

Clutch cable is routed correctly and set up by the book.

I didn’t know at the time but it would turn out I had incorrect clutch plates. They were slip plates where the cork was cut at an angle.

Replaced the cork over the weekend and it’s much better now.

Onto the next little issue haha.

Next issue to sort out…

A bit of a flat at around 3-5000 rpm. It’s not major, but it’s there.

Gonna raise my needles one position and see if that helps.

Adjusting these carbs is quite a pain compared to all my twins haha.

Yes, bragging rights!

We nominate bikes and typically two bikes duke it out, the members vote and 1 bike is the winner!

I love it! Beautiful bike.
Bike of the month indeed.
On small detail, look at the left side cover, wing is facing rearward. Easy to fix.

Do they go on the opposite way???

I tried searching for a direction but couldn’t find anything conclusive.

Thank you for pointing that out!! I’ve been fascinated with all the little details of these bikes, the changes, and nuances.

And while I may have moved the paint gun and turned the wrenches, here we are again as a reminder it was certainly a group effort.

Yes, the Wing should be "flying into the wind", or at least that's the way I remember it. Good catch Maui...

Took it for a decent ride today.

Sorted out my flat spot - turns out one of my exhaust lances was a little loose, stumbled across it by luck. Tightened it up, no more flat spot.

BUT I got on it pretty good and it seem to flat line around 6k in 5th gear.

I am running 110 mains but maybe I push em to the 120 they came stock with?? I’m not running baffles.

I’m pretty sure it’s been suggested that with modem gas a 110 is the ticket, but nonetheless Im flat lining.

And some proper pics now that it’s all finished up.

Why no baffles?  I'd put the 120's in.

Those agaves look awesome, you making tequila over there?!!

Well I got no baffles cause there were none in there when I got it haha.

Figured I’d run it and see if I like it.

I’ll probably get some baffles here shortly.

I’ll get some 120s on order and see what they do.

The agave is my neighbors, I’m waiting for the stocks to shoot up so I can build some surfboards out of em!!! The stocks are a nightmare to work with but are beautiful once done.

I build a lot of board using local woods and old growth from around town.

Nice looking board! Is that a long board?
Where in CA are you? I have gone to Oceanside for the winter's since 06.
You actually use agave in the boards?

That my 11’4 gun. Made for big waves.

I’m on the central coast (pismo beach area). We have a fair amount for 15-20ft surf in the winters around this area if you know where to look.

As for agave…

Yes, when the sticks shoot up, the plant is dead.

It can be harvested, dried and used to build a boards. Very light.

A question for ya:
what gearing (sprockets) does it have? The K0 cam expected to 'feel' the 16T/45T or 17T/48T sprockets, and if it now has the 18/48 that is commonly sold these days as "OEM gearing", it is too tall for this cam. Dropping the ratio back to original (17/48 lasts longer) wakes them up nicely.

For the long-distance riders:
in order to be able to "pull" taller gearing (like I do with mine, now) you need a different cam (late K5 or K6 - mine is K6 - with the steep closing ramp on the intake valve lobes), some head chamber work (hemi, reduced to 21.4cc), and leaner jets with deeper float bowls. Mine will pull the 19T/48T combination to 105 in 5th gear, but will do 115 in 4th. The tradeoff is the nice "cruise" feeling in 5th when riding places like...Kansas...Nebraska...eastern South Dakota or Colorado...  ;)
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Good question!

Just counted.

17/45.

That would explain a lot.

Time to hunt down a sprocket.
