Lots of spending needed if the goal is a good bike that also looks good. It seems there aren’t a lot of fairly clean examples of them around.

Yes there are!

No. Bone stock internals. At some point, a rebuild or replacement will become necessary. Last time I did head gaskets, I found one of the portside cylinders pretty badly scored on the bottom side. Not scary bad, just bad enough to be psychologically bothersome.

It, like most four-cylinder wings, smokes a bit on start up out that left side. So, I don’t know if it’s normal four-cylinder Goldwing smoke or the scoring is contributing.  I’ll get a few more years out of it before I need to make a decision.

I worked on my gl1000 all winter. Very enjoyable to see how the technology progressed in a few years since the introduction of the cb750.

The two bikes are very different technology wise. The carbs themselves are ultra complicated along with the electrics.

Good luck with the project.

I previously had a '77. The carbs are definitely a much bigger pain than CB carbs.

Ain't that the truth!  Most finicky carbs I've ever worked with. Still, it usually boils down to clean idle jets, float height and idle mixture.

Funny how that Sulphur Yellow was a flop back in the day (sold poorly) but now is a favorite for the GL1000s.  I have had several yellow bikes.  I love the color on a motorcycle!

I ran a set of borrowed 1100 carbs to Sturgis and back on my 78 gl1000. Back in the day they were considered a speed secret because of the accelerator pumps.
I should have kept them because they worked better than my lean ass stock carbs even after a bunch of cleanings and by me and a pro and adding jets in the pilot air tubes. (Randakk 77 only mod) Didn't hurt the 78, may not be much better though.

My brother was a parts guy at our local Honda shop in the mid to late 70's and said Honda sent yellow tank sets to the dealers to swap onto existing stock to try to boost sales.

I hadn't really thought that far ahead, but I have been thinking about building a sporty touring Wing using one of the Hondaline farings (the CBX/V4 Sabre style) that I have in my parts stash.

I should be able to sell the titled '74 frame and front end and the spare carb set and make enough to get the '76 with the 1100 engine running and rideable. A GL1000 Vetter bracket should be easy to come by also and should be pretty easily adaptable to the Honda faring.

I had intended to put one of the farings on my 75-F, but I like the idea of leaving that bike naked and mostly stock and having a GL to use as a tourer. I had a dressed '77 GL a few years back and it was an amazing distance bike but a pig around town. The GL + 750F garage combo gets me every on-road scenario covered.

Long range plans just don't work for me, something too cool to not own keeps finding me.

Fortunately I only tied up $100 and I can easily dispose of them should something else pop up.

I think a Goldwing with the Hondaline would be cool.

The V4 fairing is off Sabre? Or are you talking the Hondaline off a cb900? Some of the Windjammer are very aero.
I am wanting a Vesco Rabid Transit fairing for trips...

My CX500 is going to be pressed into a winter bike as I have it a 300 or 330W stator for a Goldwing wound for high output. The Windjammer I have for it is going to get painted in a Wes Cooley Suzuki inspired white and  Sail Blue paint by Rust-Oleum. Yeah I am using Rust-Oleum oil based enamel from can to put down base white on everything then spraying the Sail Blue. My CX is the 78 Plastic Maggot so I am fitting the stock Maggot fairing and the WindJammer with a scheme that works as I will swap over the Maggot from summer riding to the Windjammer in winter...
I have lowers for the Windjammer so I will have some winf protection that ya won't want in summer.
That's my plan. I might want to put a modern fork on the CX but I don't know what to use as I am keeping the Standard ComStar wheels on the CX.
Would love to have aluminum version of std ComStar but they are rare and hard to find and expensive. Spoked conversion from GL1000 won't work without driveshaft change and other changes and I cannot afford that....

That white GL1200 is very nice. My WindJammer is a a Hammer 3 with external turn signals...fitting period kit for 78 vintage bike.
Hondaline had Vetter do their fairings initially then they did their own thing. The Hondaline fairing doesn't look as good on the GL500 Silver wings as it does the GoldWing...

The one from the white GL Alan posted. Honda used it on the CB900 Bol d'Or in Europe and it is most common on the V4 Sabres and the CBX here in the US. My particular farings have the frames that work with the VF750 Sabre. I bought them from a guy who had intended to install one on his Sabre but crashed the bike before he did. I have one in the same shade of red as this photo and also in the dark maroon.

I love how the fairing looks on the Bol d'Or and think it would have looked great on my 750F.
