Chev 2500HD
« on: April 17, 2022, 02:19:46 AM »
Ran across this Silverado. It's a 2007 2500HD crew cab 4x4 with a 6.0 V8. It has 14000 miles. Asking 18 grand, IMO way to much! To be a 15 year old truck paint and body look good (only a few blemishes) you can tell its been taken care of. Rocker panels and underbody in good shape. But this is the first year of the AFM system that gave GM so much trouble with oil consumption issues, etc for several years. Does anyone have this vehicle or one similar. Info and feedback, thanks. What would your offer?

Correction, just found out the 2500 trucks did not come with AFM ;)

At 14000 miles, that's about one year of miles.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Can't help with the specificis but the used car (and truck) market is insane right now, and prices are unreal. I have a friend who bought a new Honda, drove it for two years, and about 8 months ago sold it for more than he paid for it new.

I bought a new tacoma in 2017 for around $35k. I put 30k miles on it and sold it to a coworkers buddy for $32k end of 2020, I think. He put several thousand miles on it, then traded it. Another one of my buddies then told me his coworker purchased it from a local dealer for $38k. Crazy.

14K miles is very low for a 2007 truck; is that the real mileage? I've been watching Craigs list for Chevy trucks for the last few months now, and have seen ads that claimed low miles, but on a new or rebuilt motor, while the rest of the truck had 150K. ;) There is a 2014 4x4 crew with a 5.3 EcoTec 3/flex fuel with 60K miles for $33K, a 2015 with a 5.3 and 139K miles for $28K, and a 2016 with a 6.0L and 47K miles for $39K. There is also a 2009 4x4 crew cab 1500 that had the 5.3 replaced at 100K miles for $19K.
Most of the trucks I've looked at were way overpriced IMHO, given the high mileage of over 150K. I ended up with a no frills 2004 single cab long bed with a 4.8 and 98K miles for $7200; I've recently seen the exact same year and model with 180K miles and an asking price of $8500.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Excellent point, Scottly! They try that stuff around here, too. I often see something like "Engine has 80k miles" and then you find out that it has 300k. They always say "the body has higher mileage, but the engine....". I always want to ask them how many miles do the brake parts have? Fuel lines? Control arms? Frame? Seats? Wiring harness? Exhaust? Ecm? I hope people don't actually fall for that bs. I guess there's a sucker born every minute.

These days I am really glad that I have my two old trucks. I have an 85' GMC S-15 standard cab long bed and a 93' Ford F-250 XLT extra cab long bed 4x4 diesel. I bought the Ford in 98' with the intention of it being the last truck I buy. Compared to modern trucks its like driving a hay wagon but its a beast. The 7.3L V8 diesel engine is the last year with mechanical injection and is very reliable. I added a Banks Sidewinder turbo system. I also replaced the Ford inverted Y steering linkage with a center link steering linkage system. I've also upgraded the transmission, all of the suspension and put a Detroit Locker in the rear axle so it can leave a stoplight in the rain when empty. 8)
Having a big truck and a little truck is great. I use the little truck most of the time but when it's time to tow or haul something I have it covered.
There's now way I could replace it now with a newer truck even if I wanted to. The prices are crazy now and my truck only has 140k miles on it now with many more to go.
