If this gasket were a condom...

...my CB500 would be pregnant with quadruplets.

I think this was a kit from Dime City.
What's everyone using these days? Anyone using copper spray?
Searches for gaskets return results from 8 years ago.

Not wanting to berude but with the amount of crud round those studs my guess is the joint surfaces were either not flat or not clean enough or damaged
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Not rude at all. That's what happens when you go off road on a street bike without a front fender.
Luckily that dirt just fell through the stud passages and wasn't actually sandwiched between the deck and the cylinder jug surfaces.

I had my 400F apart last winter to put in 1st over pistons, and I put it back together with a brand of gasket kit I had never heard of before (D&K or something). Half way thru summer I started getting leaks from everywhere, base gasket, head gasket, valve cover. I pulled it apart again this winter and the rubber o-rings were hard as a rock and came apart in pieces.

I put it back together with a Vesrah kit, hoping it's better quality. Too bad you can't just buy a top end kit direct from Honda any more.

Vesrah or Cyclex are better quality. Copper spray is ok in light application.
