1978 750k, float valves installed upside down
« on: May 08, 2022, 12:36:19 PM »
i bought a 1978 750k with rebuilt carbs ,the person i got it from mention one of the carbs might have a leak in one float bowl overflow tube,i started the bike and was hard to start but would run but couldnt idle leaking from overfow,, with bike off when you turn the petcock on fuel comes out the overflow tubes, well after check them i got some clear fuel lines and fuel was coming out every carb overflow, i took the floats out and found all the float valves were upside down, i put those right side up bike was still hard to start and fuel came out exhaust, so i brought  the carbs to a friend who is more knowledgeable then myself so we could go over the carbs, we found all  the floats needed adjustment, all the gaskets, valves and jet looked new but all the idle jets were clogged, so we cleaned everything, one of the idle jets must  have been over torqued as it was stripped in the threads in the carb, so we put  some epoxy on the treads and put it back in, so thats a one time deal  i,ll look for a replacement carbs for the future if i need it, so i will  change or clean plugs and change oil this week and fire it up again and see how it goes,

Rebuilt carbs by previous owner seems to be an oxymoron with these bikes... :) :)

Need pics. The 78' CB750K idle jets do not "screw" in, they are pressed in...

If you had gas in the exhaust pipes it might be a good idea to do an oil change on the engine also. Good chance some gas went down the cylinders. Pull the stick and take a whiff after the engine is run for a quickie check and see if the oil level is high.

As usual, some very wise counsel here.

(I didn't know K8 slow jets were press in. Odd how Honda went back and forth on that).
