That was a bargain Dave! The first thing I noticed when I fired up my old Peerless compressor was how much quieter it is than my Ebay direct drive cheapie that I use in the patio, so I should swap them out as I ise the onein the patio all the time.

Thanks Stu, I rarely look for new posts as I’m usually pretty busy onmy own stuff and living in Melbourne I couldn’t really advise on where someone in Sydney (500 miles away) could go to get there bike fixed but am a member of the Aussie FB CB750 community and have recently sold a lot of parts to new guys who are building bikes. I’m not a fan of standing in line at the post office with all of the folks in front of me taking forever to get passports processed and paying all there utility bills etc so I don’t bother selling small items like a single carb body but recently sold 3 sets of carbs, a couple of starter motors and a cam, which have made it worthwhile to go to the PO and wait, and wait some more….. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I also am not a fan of shipping.
We were out of town for a week and came home with covid so the truck hasn't moved much lately. My wife had built up a huge grocery store gas discount that added up to more than the price of regular. She was afraid it might expire so I masked up and headed to the gas station. I couldn't find a way to use part of it, so I bought the maximum 20 gallons of no alcohol premium for .009 cents per gallon. 10 in cans, 10 in the truck. Total charge to the card $0.18

Have you priced gas cans lately? Incredibly high priced. Been that way for the past 4-5 years.

You should check out California approved gas cand, the need 3 hands and an instruction manual to operate one!!

The containers here have an internal vent straw the goes up the dump pipe. Totally useless and take forever to empty! I have 5 X 5 gallon, old school plastic cans wth large nozzles and a proper, separate vent cap. I treat them carefully and hope they last forever!

I have four of those gas cans and two 5 gallon steel gas cans with lids that open when you grab the handle. My buddy bought one of those new fangled gas cans and they are next to useless. Especially if you are trying to fill up a bike.

I buy some of the most expensive gas cans in the country. They come filled with VP Q16 fuel but are easy to use. I can hardly wait until osha realizes these cans aren't idiot proof.

I rode my blue F2 over to Ace Motorcycles this morning for a Roadworthy inspection, the last bureaucratic hurdle before the government d1cks let me ride it out on the road. Well, second last really, I had to buy an "Unregistered Vehicle Permit" online first, so I didn't get booked for riding an unregistered bike.

Anyway, I put the key in, turned it on, thumbed the button, and it fired right up on all four. I put my jacket and helmet on, and realised that the rear brake light wasn't working. Fcuk. Helmet off, jacket off, (already around 85 degrees) and start farting around with my multimeter, power probe etc and I was able to determine that the brake light switch was working, the brake light bulb was fine, (the front brake light was working fine) the power wire had power, but there must have been a break in the green and yellow wire between the switch and the wires under the seat. Fcuk it, I made a jumper wire up with the proper plugs on either end, and bypassed the green and yellow wire from the switch to the harness under the seat.

By this stage it was getting late, so I jumped on and rode to the gas station and filled it up, then roared off towards Jeff's shop. The bike was running great, and I heard a guy yelling at me when I was at the lights, so looked over and he was pointing at the bike and giving me the big thumbs up. You meet the nicest people, and all that........ I continued on, and a couple of miles before his shop, it dropped 2 cylinders again. Fcuk....... I was in Melbourne Saturday morning traffic and didn't want to stop to shut it off, so I kept riding and luckily I got all the green lights at the 3 intersections I blew thru, and made it to the shop.

Jeff looked like sh1t. He told me that he's had 2 heart attacks since I last saw him, and he looked like it. He's lost 40 pounds (and he was never fat) but he thinks he's slowly getting better, and I think while he doesn't need the money, even though he's 73, he needs the shop to give him something to do. He let me take a look at my bike in his shop, so we popped off the points cover, and I saw that the points arm for 2&3 was stuck open. I'd noticed a spare set of points in the little glove compartment, so Jeff gave me some emery paper to clean them, and loaned me the tiny spanners needed to undo the wires from the points assembly. We fired it up, but it was still only running on two. Poop.

Jeff arced the points and only the points for 1&4 sparked, so there was no power to 2&3. Condensor? That's my guess, but Jeff wanted to close, so I left it with him and he'll get it going, sort the wiring for the rear brake light, and do a Roadworthy Inspection while he's at it. I called an Uber, and had a smoke with Jeff who's still smoking, he's smoked for 60 years and when he went to hospital they XRayed his lungs and they were perfect, as was his heart, apart from it only working at 20% capacity, all caused because he picked up a weird virus, in his garden. I shook his hand and asked him if he wouldn't mind fixing my bike before snuffing it, and he told me to get fcuked, and I hopped in my Uber. I like spending time with Jeff and even though my morning hadn't been great, I still felt happy. ;D

Sounds like a good candidate for one of your cheap "Chyna" ignitions Terry. Hopefully though get it going well as is for your flip if indeed that is still your plan.

Thanks guys, yep, a “Chyna” ignition will sort that out, I’m not going to hate on points, especially since that ignition is probably older than my kids, but it pissed me off, and I don’t want to be carrying around spare ignition parts, or the tiny spanners needed to fix it on the side of the road. If it just needs a condenser I’ll let Jeff install one and at least that’ll get it home.

Other than that though, I’m pretty happy with it, it’s got a shimmy coming from the front end so I might get him to balance it while it’s there, and the new front master cylinder isn’t up to snuff so once I get it back I’ll rebuild the old one and replace the brake lines with some braided cheapies that I seem to have amassed in one of my tubs. I definitely want to do some rides on it before I decide to move it on, apart from the ignition issue the engine is good, no smoking and no death rattles, so I’m growing confident that it’s a “better than average” F2. ;D

Thanks Eric, this is my fourth F2, the first one was a well maintained example that I picked up from a bike shop, it was a one owner bike that had done around the same mileage (50,000) and my only gripe was that it had only needed to get even slightly wet and it would miss and fart like crazy. I ditched the ignition and bought a Dyna III from Mike Beltrami (a member here) and it went really well, especially on 98 RON fuel, but still missed and farted when wet. I eventually sold it to a guy in Sydney who had the same issue until he replaced the ignition switch and suddenly there were no more problems. This one has the same issue when wet so I may replace the switch, apparently they have a rubber seal in the bottom of the switch that perishes over time.

Performance wise, I don’t know if it will stick with my 836 K2 with the Andrews A grind cam, but it does feel pretty good. The fact that it’s not blowing smoke indicates that it’s been reasonably well looked after, the second F2 I bought was an absolute dog, but it had been flogged mercilessly and had even been in a fire at one stage so needed a full restoration, which included a K6 top end, which, when finally sorted turned out to be a good thing, with the F2 cam and PD carbs, it went well. I sold it back when F2’s were worth nothing so got less than I paid for the blue one, but I never got any complaints from the new owner, so I guess he was happy with it. ;D

We both tested negative today, so we've kicked covid with the help of a few vaccinations. Arizona was fun but it was 40*F most of the week we were there and we came home with the bug. all that said, I'd go again. I'd like to run to fla. in a couple weeks to see some drag racing and buy a new car body for my firebird project.

Glad you & wife are well again Don.

You aren't hauling a trailer to FL are you? I hate dead heading with an empty trailer...

We had the coldest January in several years and February wasn't/hasn't been real warm yet. Had snow fall across town in Tucson couple days ago...1st of the season and likely last. Few spotty snowfalls before around town but this one was light blanket pretty much all over town.

My motorcycle parts hoarding has been paying off, in the last 2 weeks I’ve sold 4 sets of PD carbs, 2 cams, and 3 starter motors. Just junk in various tubs in my garage, the biggest effort has been boxing them up and taking them to the post office. I need to keep doing this if I want to empty my garage to the point where I can actually use my garage as a shop and not just a storage facility when I retire.

The downside is I’m dragging home 2 Kawasaki Mach III 500 projects on Sunday so I’m still not actually making any progress…… ;D

Thanks Per, yep my cunning plan is to build one and sell the other one off to pay for the build, but I won’t get too far ahead of myself, if I have enough parts to build a really nice one and a presentable “daily rider”, it might be even better, we’ll see.

Your dad was a biker too? My old man was an aeroplane nut, we’ve just donated his collection of military aircraft memorabilia to a museum, thousands of rare photos, hundreds of books and magazines going back to the 1930’s, hundreds of model planes (many unopened kits) pieces of fabric from the Red Baron’s and Herman Goerring’s planes, even some top secret plans for WE2 German fighters and bombers. I have no interest in that stuff so I’m glad the museum wanted it so badly they came and collected it all, it’s probably worth a fair amount of money but I just don’t have the time or motivation to get it all catalogued and sold. And it makes me happy that it’s going to be displayed in a museum and not broken up and hidden in private collections. ;D

No, my das was not a biker despite ha was an engineer. Maybe "too dangerous" or not time for it.
He could build some various models.  His brother had bikes long time ago, like late 40's. Born 1925, 1926.
My technical interest to make mopeds, bikes and cars go better must be in the gene pool ;)

Real parts from famous flyers, pilots as planes must have been something fun to collect.

Yeah it was more of an obsession than a hobby Per, he dragged us kids to every airport, military museum, Air Base in Oz and Europe, fcuk I hated it, and all he ever talked about was WW2, which bored my pants off. In a selfish way, getting rid of all that stuff was good for my mental health. Both of my grandfathers, on the other hand were bikers so they were much more interesting. ;D

WW2 is boring but those who where old enough to remember it might be happy to be able to talk about it afterwards ;)
The plastic models were fun when I was a kid, before I became 15 yo with other interests.
I saw a program on TV not long ago about ME 109's that were used after WW2.  They had a bunch of restored ME 109.

They had old WW2 guys as technical advisers.
One was a german WW2 ace that just took one plane for a joyride when nobody looked.
He flew it like he must have done back in the days.
Acrobatic flyer.
It must felt fantastic for him to feel it decades after.

That plane was very demanding.

My Dad had both a Suzuki T500 and a GT750. When I was a kid we both went down on the T500 on some wet road coming up to a stop sign close to home. Can still remember the bike sliding up ahead of us throwing off sparks. We got back on and made it home where my old man got a major earful from my Mom for trying to kill me.  ;D Remember him riding the GT750 to work with his suit and tie and his favorite big leather Wellington slip on boots. He was kind of a rebel and a meter dept. supervisor at our power company. Field guys liked him a lot.
I moved out in my senior year of high school and was working and bought my Dad's GT750 at the local motorcycle shop after the guy he sold it to traded it for a GS. My first road bike and it made my mother cry when she stopped at my apartment and saw it.  :) She said I would kill myself and I did get banged up on it pretty bad later on. Always listen to Momma !!
