Well on Friday my club permit paperwork for the DT250 arrived in the mail so I took off early from work and drove over to VicRoads (DMV) to get my red plate. Usually I get there and wait for up to an hour before I get served, but to my surprise I had only started looking at FB on my phone when I was called to the counter and was out of there, red plate in hand, 15 minutes later! I did ride #12 on Saturday on it, still sorting the ignition but running much better.

Just waiting for a new CDI box, rec/reg and some 6v bulbs for the idiot lights and gauge illuminating lights and I can occasionally ride it to work, which will save around $40 per day in tolls and parking fees. That’s going to make me happy too. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Lucky you, Terry, at the DMV. I took my granddaughter to get her drive test for her license on Friday and even with an appointment we were there over 2 hours. I made use of the time by renewing the registration on Eeyore and she passed her test, so I guess that is a happy-ish thing.

Glad to hear the 250 is comming along. You are going to put ride 12 in the Frank's Challenge thread too, right?

Thanks Jim, yep, I’ve been meaning to post ride #12 since Saturday but i’ve been really busy/lazy/drunk/asleep the last few days. The rec/reg and CDI arrived yesterday, so I installed the rec/reg and the idiot lights, and was surprised that, with the engine idling its still putting out 9.3 volts, but the lights are all working and much brighter than before. I’ll take it for another ride before installing the CDI and see if it made a difference.

I’m picking up another bike on Monday. I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy any more bikes but this one is a freebie, well, sort of. I’m actually picking up two bikes, and the “free” bike is payment for fixing up the other one. More on that later. The free bike won’t be a keeper, and as it’s in very nice condition should sell quickly, which will help my bank account look a bit healthier after what’s been an expensive year so far. ;D

Thanks John, pictures on Monday, which will probably cause some laughter when you see the bike that I’m going to be fixing up, it’s pretty uncommon, but definitely not cool….. (IMHO, of course) The other bike (the freebie) is a lot nicer, but not something I would want to keep. ;D

Got a huge production bonus on top of a 84 hour check this week at the mill.
New job is going well. All 12s and 16s hasn't left a lot of free time though.
Making progress at the new house paying a buddy to do the work.

Going to pull the Honda off the lift and just order the Sportster parts. It's a straight forward fix at this point. No real tuning or fab. Just bolt and go.

Well done mate, those long hours would kill me nowadays but I worked 2 jobs for over 15 years to make ends meet, and it was worth it. Get some rest whenever you can. ;D

I'm in a 675 hour probation until I get Union membership. They tell you an orientation one of the things that they grade if they're going to keep you or not long enough to be in the union is how much overtime you work. When I get out of my 675 hours I'm probably going to cut it back to 4/8 and 3/12 for the week. Probably every other Sunday work a double since that would be on double time hard to say no to 32 hours of pay for one day.

That's killer OT Gurp, I did 25 OT hours in one day once before they changed the rules on us. It was administrative time tacked on to a 23 hour day.

Damn bud. Found a hour hour that doesn't even exist!
The most I've been on the clock is 17 hours open to close when I was a teenager.
They had to alter my timecard. Luckily for them back then it was all manually entered.

I'd like to start working every other double time Sunday as a 16 just have to see how the scheduling with the kids works out. As of earlier today I became single so I'm going to be pulling the Honda on the lift and throwing the Harley up there bc it's less figuring and just straight part swapping

Well I was starting to doubt my own mechanical abilities with the DT250, I was sure that the missing and farting was caused by a faulty electronic ignition system, so I first replaced the coil (made no difference) then the CDI box, and once again, no difference. OEM CDI boxes are NLA for my specific model but one of the guys on the DT pages suggested that I contact “Rex’s Speed shop” in England as they sell their own ignition components.

I did, and discovered that my particular ignition was a “One year only” unit and are known to fcuk up. They don’t carry replacement CDI boxes for my model because the whole ignition system is at fault. Well that explains why my bike was parked in 1988, with only 9000 miles on the odometer.

What made me happy though is that they sell a complete ignition system which also converts my bike to a 12V system and even includes all the bulbs, horn, rec/regulator, etc, and it’s a simple “plug and play” installation without even needing to be timed. Not horribly expensive at 300 English pounds with shipping (a bit over 600 bucks AUD, or around $400 USD) and while I may have been able to convert it to points using the ignition from my ‘78 model “parts bike” it would still be a 6v system with dim lights, which wouldn’t be much fun at 5am when I usually ride to work.

I broke out the plastic and ordered the kit. I could have bought a Motobatt 12v battery from them too, but that would have doubled the shipping price, so I’ll buy one here. While I’m a little peeved that I managed to find the only model DT250 with a known ignition fault, I’m happy that it won’t be long before I’m riding a nice reliable bike. It’s not a heavy bike, but the thought of pushing it home doesn’t appeal. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
