Thanks Bill, my order included a 12v headlight bulb that fits the OEM 6V housing but I’m tempted to install a small aftermarket headlight I bought for the T350, but didn’t use as it has a halogen bulb, plus the rubber sheath that insulates the bulb holder and secures it to the headlight reflector is really badly perished, and I can’t find a new one anywhere so mine is just wrapped in electrical tape. :D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

There are certain parts of our new electronic world that are easy to like. At 2:32 pm today, I placed an order with vintagecb750.com. They picked my order and created a shipping label in less than an hour. At 4:12pm Purolator picked up the parcel and they tell me it will be here by early afternoon, tomorrow. Yahoo!

That’s great John. I ordered a cheap CDI box for my DT250 from EBay on a Sunday and it was delivered on Tuesday, which blew my mind. (But didn’t fix the problem…..) ;D

A friend of mine that's into CBX's brought over a guy that has a bike shop and loves cb750 sohc's as well as a lot of other bikes. We hit it off and I expect another visit in the future. He may be interested in some of the excess stuff I have and I already have a new contact on facebook.

G’day Bill, no, it’s coming from England so I’ll be surprised if I see it in the next couple of weeks. Like Australia, England had a 4 day long weekend for Easter so it might not have left the shop as yet. No biggie, the BMW is going to need some love on Saturday and Spotty and I are taking more crap to a swap meet on Sunday, so plenty to keep me occupied while I’m waiting. The temps here have plummeted over the last few days, so my dreams of riding it to work may be on hold for awhile. Wet roads and trail bike tyres aren’t a happy marriage. ;D

Last fall I discovered an NOS “quiet muffler” for my ancient Coleman generator (actually made in the USA), on EBay. It blew the previous soup can down the driveway, last time…..It’s been running for +4 hours so far today and although far from quiet, it’s a huge improvement! Money/time well spent. Definitely happyish.

Thanks Bill, no, each swap meet we’ve taken stuff to have been in different locations, same for the one on Sunday, so different crowds at each event, although I did see a few guys that I’d chatted to at the previous swap meets. The weather forecast has changed in the last couple of days, looks like rain on both Saturday and Sunday so we’ll make a decision as to whether we go on Saturday.

No biggie, I mentioned on the Aussie DT owners FB page that the “spare” DT250 is for sale for $500 ($200 more than I paid for it) and I think I’ve sold it. To take it to the swap meet would cost an extra $20 to pay for 2 sites (one for the van and one for the trailer with the DT on it) and the problem with swap meets is that folks go there expecting to buy stuff really cheap, so while they’re great for reducing my piles of parts, you rarely get back what you paid for them originally.

If it’s going to get wet I’d still go to the swap meet for a look, but setting up all of our “treasurers” just to get it all wet and pack it away again without selling much due to low attendance numbers doesn’t appeal. ;D

Bill….. It’s an ancient Coleman, see photos for specs. I’ve given it regular service, mostly tightening and adjusting as it runs for long periods (occasionally) and try’s to shake itself to bits! Today at ran the furnace, well pump, a freezer and two fridges and never missed a beat. I do kill the hot water tank and cooktop, to prevent any massive loads! I put fresh fuel and oil in it every Fall and the darn thing just works!

I isolate the house from the grid with a 200 amp disconnect and then back feed the house from the pony panel in the garage. The panel has a “welder plug” that takes the infamous male/male cable from the generator. We have a central meter so I turn an exterior light on, outside my shop building. When it comes on, I know the power is restored and reset everything.

A 5KVA generator is a good size, I’ve got a cheap 3200W generator that I bought a few years ago that I haven’t fired up in years. Back then, on a hot summer day everyone would turn their airconditioners on and blow the transformers at the local electricity station, so I’d fire it up and run my fridge, a light and my TV off it until the power came back on.

It used to be entertaining listening to my neighbours complaining about the power outage while I was having a cold beer watching my favourite shows. ;D

I've had my Honda EM 3500 contractor grade generator since 98'. The only time it didn't start was when the 15yo spark plug gave up. I can run the fridge, freezer, 2 entertainment centers, 4 phone chargers, several lights and the wood stove fan. It still fires up on the first or second pull.

I get a kick out of watching my  unfriendly neighbor trying to get by on a 2000 watt generator. 8)

1000W John? We had a few in one of the Army units I was posted to. Wasn’t much good for anything but lighting, wouldn’t boil a kettle or run a fridge, but might be good enough for an electric drill or charging batteries, but too small to power an air compressor etc. My 3200W Chinese genny with a Honda knockoff engine was around $200 (AUD) new. ;D

Well my 1989 BMW K100RS is getting closer to being back on the road. Yesterday Spotty and I put in a big day replacing the battery, rebuilding the front brake master cylinder and installing a new fuel pump. Each job was a pain as a PO had done some weird wiring mods and for some reason there’s even a mercury switch of some description dangling from a bracket that’s been fabricated with some crappy electrical connections, that all had to come off to get to the much smaller battery that he’d installed. We installed the huge Motobatt that I’d bought for it. Interestingly the old battery must’ve had a volt or two left because we could just make out the faint digits on the electric clock. We put the old battery on his charger and it appeared to be taking a charge.

I bought the brake master cylinder kit from “Moto bins” in England, and it was a simple job to remove the MC, and once we’d cleaned it (and unblocked the bleed port, which was blocked solid) we reinstalled it, got a good lever pressure and were pretty happy until we realised that there must be a blockage further along the system because the brake lever was not moving at all, so we’ll have to try to flush the system (with all the extra piping for the ABS modules) and if that doesn’t work I’ll delete the ABS completely and run brake lines directly to the calipers. Old BMW rubber brake lines have a tendency to rot from within, and block themselves so it might be time to buy some new hoses for it.

The fuel pump is inside the tank so first we had to syphon the 9 year old fuel out of it. Once we could see the bottom of the tank we realised that the tank is aluminium, so no rust! Yay! Only problem was there were lumps of black gooey crap all over the insides of the tanks. There’s a rubber “anti vibration damper” that the pump sits in, and the old one had turned to horrible sticky black mud that was of the same consistency as black gasket goop, so we had to scrape/scrub it all out then tip in a bottle of brake cleaner to break it up, then a gallon of gas to swish it around followed by a bucket of hot soapy water. What a PITA!

Anyway once it was as clean as we could get it we used his shop vac to suck out any remaining water and installed the new pump and filter. By this stage we’d been working on it for 7 hours and it was getting late, so I didn’t bother driving to the gas station to buy a couple of gallons of fresh gas and fire it up. I’ll grab some fuel tomorrow after work and add some acetone to remove any moisture that might still be inside all the nooks and crannies, and some upper cylinder lubricant as the cylinders will be very dry after sitting since 2015.

Overall I’m really happy that it’s going to be back on the road again soon, I just hope that the brake issue won’t be too painful. ;D

Today we successfully rebuilt a 44'yo Harbor Freight floor jack that my buddy bought back in 80' when Harbor Freight first came to Seattle. I last serviced it around 2015 and it worked great until it started leaking yesterday.

That’s the one John, I’ve had 3 of them and while quirky, they are capable of doing big miles with just basic maintenance. The engine was a car design and BMW just flipped it on its side. Mine is the K100RS SE ABS1, (you thought Harley nomenclatures were long?) and until recently I’d only ever seen one here in Melbourne, in 1991. I went on a club ride and a jerk on the K100RS was showing off, hit a wet patch on a windy road up in the hills and rode over an embankment.

Surprisingly the bike wasn’t damaged but we couldn’t push it back up on to the road so someone called a tow truck. The tow truck operator had very little interest in making sure that things were going well. The bike’s owner was trying to hold it upright as the bike was being hauled back up the embankment, and when he lost his footing the bike fell on its left side, and apparently the towie couldn’t hear him yelling “stop” so he dragged it up laying on its side which did some damage to the left side of the fairing.

When I bought this bike in 2014, it’d been repainted and I was tickled to see that the fibreglass had been repaired on the left side of the fairing. I often wonder if it’s the same bike, as it was a “Special Edition” model (hence the “SE” in the rather long nomenclature) painted in BMW’s racing white and blue paint scheme, and was the first model to have ABS. I’ve seen a couple more recently that were personally imported from Japan, but not many made it here to Oz when they were released. Mine is definitely an original Australian market model.

I was trying to find a pic of one to show you so googled it and found a pic of my actual bike from a post here many years ago, just after I installed the “Luftmeister” exhaust system that I picked up for a bargain from a US seller, I don’t know if it makes any performance improvements but certainly looks better than the weird OEM pipe with it square shaped exhaust. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
