1974 CB750K4 Rear Passenger Pegs, alternate location?
« on: April 25, 2022, 08:11:16 AM »
Hey everyone,

I purchased a 1974 CB750k4 last winter and finally have it up and running, I want to swap out the seat (easy part) so that my wife can join me on rides. What I did not notice is that when the previous owner did some modifications to the bike he also chopped off the triangle where the passenger foot pegs connect to the frame. To be honest, I do not really like the look of that triangle that pops off the frame anyway, and was wondering if anyone knew of any alternate solutions? I was thinking, but couldn't find, if there was a bracket extension where the rider foot pegs are that can extend back and up so that passenger foot pegs could be connected, this would be a much better way. I am also open to welding on a fabricated peice of metal, I am just having a hell of a time finding anything.

Anyone else come across this issue? I added two images as attachments for reference.

A friend of mine had the same issue on a different bike. He found a set of pegs that were made to clamp on an old set of “crash bars”. He rolled some tape around the frame and clamped them in a suitable location. I might have a set, if you want to try that?

Looks like you'll have to mount them to the swing arm like the early 400-4's had

You could drill a small dimple into the foot peg clamp and tighten it to the frame with a small ball bearing inside the clamp against the frame tube, that'll keep the foot peg from shifting or twisting on the frame tube under load.

I've seen this done with unknurled handlebars that would otherwise be hard to clamp securely.

So here’s what I found. These were clamped to a huge crash bar that mounted across the front down tubes (it is long gone). Chrome is good, they will polish up very nicely. The “750” you see in the  photo is actually cut right through the peg. All the hardware is there and if you look closely, the foot peg can be “clocked” into several different positions, then secured with a large, chamfered Allen screw from the back. It also folds up. All useful and good.

The bad news: The hole through the clamping block is 1” dia. (to match the old crash bars). It would fit well around the original “triangle tube”, but it’s too small for a main frame tube. There is lots of material, so it would be easy to bore it out, to match your frame tube OD.  Want them?
