Tank emblem mounted with magnets
« on: January 29, 2022, 07:23:33 AM »
My emblems fit poorly on my tank when trying to mount them with the clips in the tank. Got the idea to remove the clips and glue magnets to the emblems for a snug fit.
Anyone see any issues putting magnets on the tank?
Thanks

Probably not going to cause a problem. 3M and maybe others make a good double sided tape that can work also if you can get the correct thickness.

One emblem did not sit flush to tank on my CB750 K2. Sat a little bit loose.
Small dots of bathroom silicone on pegs and under the emblem helped. Fixed by tape a few days when curing.

I've used the 3m tape even with no pegs it holds the emblems on. That's what it was designed to do. A magnet stuck in a good place may hold any rust in place that floats loose inside. I did that on a rusty gl1000 tank.

Issue I see is jealous douchebags pulling your emblems off easily. Not sure if you're in a big city where this is an issue.

Hi Jebon,
Could I get an update on this magnet mount idea? I was thinking about doing this for my 350f. The only worry i had was magnetizing the tank so that it picks up metallic debris which could scratch the paint when cleaning. Also do they hold well enough in wind and vibrations? Thanks!

I went for double sided tape, so I wouldn't know.
Sorry. Double sided tape works fine so far.
