It's All in the Detail
« on: May 03, 2022, 12:24:56 PM »
Cool misty day here in Virginia, my plate was fairly empty so I spent some enjoyable  hours in the garage with some Mother's aluminum polish, Maguires paste wax, chrome polish, leather conditioner, and a s(*&tpot full of microfiber rags.  CD's by Randy Travis, Righteous Brothers, Paul Thorn, and Rolling Stones had the dust blown off of them and ran though the player.  I managed to get the two I have been riding the most as of late done, my knock around 1974 CB750 and the 67 Triumph T100C.   Both had been uncovered for a couple weeks, and even though stored in the garage, they were literally covered in green pollen which is normal here in early Spring.  IMHO there is nothing more relaxing than spending time making a bike shine, just down right satisfying.  Oh I know they are some that say bikes should be ridden rather than polished, (damn BMW riders mostly), but a fair mixture of both is what I enjoy.  Though my many years of two wheel ownership, there have been some real nice bikes and a fair number, lets say, that didn't get an invite to the prom, but all were kept clean regardless.  Had a damn nice day and still have a few more to do......

I agree. While not as satisfying as going for a ride, keeping them clean and shiny definitely has its own rewards.

This comment is spot on. You never know what you’re gonna find when you’re detailing a bike. I’m always on the lookout for loose fasteners and other things that may be out of sorts. It happens. It’s the perfect time to discover things - and get some good tunes in…

So so true, and spot on with a British bike.  I have lost a seat spring knob two license plate bolts so far with about 70 miles on the clock since the rebuild on the Triumph.  It is a shame since the Brits are so well known for their state of the art electrical systems........

The old 750 starts everytime, nothing falls off, does not leak oil, and runs like a stripped arse ape.  Now you know why the Japanese took over the American motorcycle market in the 60"s....

I've been slacking on the detailing, my excuse is owning too many bikes. I really need to up my game.
I got a couple sets of detailing chemicals, one with a VP pit kit and a set of Lucas from my buddy that works for Holley.
