Carb Rebuild Service -- including seals?
« on: May 11, 2022, 09:17:12 AM »
Hey everyone,

My 77 CB550K carbs need new seals.  It's just getting near impossible to get it to idle right.  Have to hang it around 2K RPM.  Did all the other stuff like new o-rings, etc. and sync and timing.  The felt seals around the choke shaft are completely missing and you can see the rod vibrating around.  I bought new seals from "Dude's Garage" a while back with the intention of doing it myself, but with the complexity of putting it back together it's probably better if I just send this out to someone who has experience with the whole procedure and just clean/refurb the rest of the carb too while they have it.

Any recommendations on who can do this for me?

Thanks

Your issue is not likely the felts. They are for dust/dirt and not for sealing the shaft for zero air entry like many surmise. Lots of carb rebuilders in the US, so hopefully someone will chime in shortly.

Mike Nixon is a carb specialist, yet like most rebuilders on a set of four carbs these days not cheap. Yet it will be done right.

I am a rebuilder yet reside in Canada and no longer do any US work.

Yeah, I know it won't be cheap because of the complexity of them.  But, it needs done and I don't have spares in case I muck it up so I'd rather just have someone do it right the first time.
