installing K0 side cover screens?
« on: May 10, 2022, 01:49:01 PM »
I am thinking of using a bit of epoxy at  each corner of the screen to attach it to the back of the side cover, does anyone have better a way to do this just so I don't screw this up? I've put a couple of deep sockets on the screen to hold it flush to the cover. Thanks, Cliff.

They were glued. I don't have any that weren't removed for paint or I'd get a pic. I made a set of screens out of a desk file holder from Staples once.
I think they had a dab of glue near each tab. My google pics don't show one, I'll take one off and have a look.

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Not original glue. The silver one is the file holder material, it's painted black on the front side. I've had original and NOS and while they were quite similar I'm sure the glue was different. Neither painter listened to me about painting the back edge and letting the overspray show on the inside.

i think the tabs on the inside held them in place on the original covers. On the Yamiya repops the tabs are more for positioning I would say.

Mine all had some sort of glue, the red one pictured is real honda but has been painted. I was thinking the blue green were real but remembered they are not.

I recall reading somewhere that on new covers the tabs need to be softened with soldering iron and then bent onto the mesh to hold it. Never tried it but it sounds plausible.

Thanks for that. Looks like you have to very careful not to distort the cover.

The tabs are heated gently and bent over

Thanks wideAWAKE. I used a soidering iron with a 90 degree bend in it, held my breath as I was afraid what the heat might do to the front side. I only did 4 tabs and didn't hear them quite enough but they are holding the screens.

Looks good!! Seems 4 tabs is plenty to hold it in place.

I will be doing mine this week some time.

I think your 90deg tip is a good idea.

I’ll go dig mine out.
