Alternator and Lithium reg rec on motogadget system
« on: May 10, 2022, 01:23:01 PM »
My first post on this forum and hope someone can help me out.
I am currently building a custom street tracker style bike from a 1978 CB550 F2 which I bought in a sorry state being an insurance write off and had been standing for about 12 years.
I’ll put some pictures up when it’s finished.
I’m at the wiring stage and am using a motogadget m- unit blue and earth switches and all LED lighting.
I’ve also fitted a lithium battery and new MOSFET technology regulator rectifier.
I hope this question is ok in this section as it’s related to my motogadget build.
The Honda alternator has 5 wires, 3 yellow AC outputs from the main alternator windings and two wires from the field coil, one green and one white.
The new combined reg rec has 5 terminals. 3 for the AC input which I have connected the 3 yellow wires too and it has 2 for the DC output + & - which I have connected to the battery.
My question is what do the green and white field coil wires connect to ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

You have the wrong reg/rect; you need one for an "excited field" alternator, while the one you have is for a "permanent magnet" alternator. The proper unit will have a white wire that connects to the field white, and the field green wire is connected to ground, err, earth. The reg/rect you select should be compatible with Lithium battery voltages.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Thanks Scottly. I was beginning to think I may have the wrong type of reg rec.
It was sold as universal fit but guess in hindsight I should have done a bit more research !
