'70 K0 Throttle Twist Force
« on: May 11, 2022, 06:09:03 AM »
This has probably been covered previously. I did a search but...
Is there a way to reduce the amount of force required?
Change to a fatter grip. Probably replace the springs in the carbs. If so what springs?
Anything else?  TIA

Dunno if this may apply to your K0 model, but me thinks this is simple and effective: http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,26115.msg239571.html#msg239571

Kaw Z1 grips are better.
I have received two where carb springs were cut shorter.

There is a picture attached that can only be viewed if you are a member or the UK forum.  I'm not a member so I ( and presumably you) can't see it because we're not members.  I'd assume the attached picture would be self explanatory.

I use this thing.  It work well for long rides and eases the strain on the arm.

Thank you for the information. That is something that I didn't know existed. I would still like to pursue the root of the problem and see what could be done with the carb springs...

You may need to polish the slides and clean the bores. Mine don't turn hard so it could be cable routing or condition also, the problem in making it easier to turn is the 4 cable carbs have no manual return.

Thanks for the info. That is a good idea. Unfortunately K0 carbs don't use that setup...

If everything is in proper working order, it should not take too much force to twist the accelerator. I suspect you have one or more of the following:
  • Grime between the plastic throttle sleeve and the handlebar. Clean and lubricate.
  • Dirty, unlubricated or damaged throttle cable. Inspect and lubricate or replace. Also worth making sure that your throttle cable routing is correct.
  • Dirty slides and carb slide chambers. Inspect and clean.
