CB750 Forks on a CB500
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:58:36 AM »
Hey,

I've searched everywhere on this site and could not compile the needed info to answer my questions.

I have a 72 CB500 with Abe Henry wheels (see this thread: http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=18739.0 ). I have 3 goals:

1.   Keep the Abe henrys
2.   Have dual disk brakes
3.   Not blow all my drinking money in the process

I have seen 550’s, 650C’s, & 750’s with dual disks.
Will a 750 w/ dual disks fit my stock 500 triple trees (fork spacing) and can I get the 500 wheel to fit on the 750 axle?

I plan on running clip ons, over the triples. So a longer fork should not be a problem.

If the 750’s (with or with out a triple swap) won’t work. Which other forks would be best to look for?

I am pretty sure the spacing between the 500 and 750 trees is different. That being said I don't think it will be a problem using the henry abe wheels on the 750 forks.

you are welcome to come over and take some measurements.

Geeto, I could probably spend a whole day just browsing your bike farm and parts collections  ;D

I'll shoot you a PM so we can get together.

The spacing between the forks is the same (at least until '77), but the distance from the stem to the fork tubes is different. I have a CB750 Tarozzi fork brace intended for K0-K7 that fits my '75 CB550 just fine...

Ok, I'm a bit outta date and have no bikes here to verify :-(cry out loud)

I believe that the 500/550 and the 750 use the same head bearings although the steering stem is shorter on the 500/550 and 450/500.

I have personally installed a 750 frontend on a CB450 and, as I recall, the only problem was the placing of the washer with the tapered bearing kit. The 750 didn't need it but the 450 needed the washer under the lower bearing race.

Please don't call me a dumbass If I get it wrong. I haven't had my bikes for several years although I have had a hundreed in the past.

POOR PITIFUL ME.... huh?
