Wow! I've never seen a convertible.  My buddy had a coupe (late gen 2 or early gen 3) handed down from his father.  He drove it back in the mid 80's as his first car.  It had been across the country and to Alaska and back.

 No. The rack and all the touring stuff is gone. I have the mud flap. It just looks like a piece of rubber someone cut, though very well done. You can have it if you want it.

 Front end and brakes are done. Got the rear wheel cleaned up. Lubed and serviced the rear brake. New tires installed.

 Moved on to the exhaust.
 First, pull everything and give it a cleaning with a Simple Green solution.

 The exhaust collars cleaned up REALLY nice with a brass brush and a soak in EvapoRust.

 I knew there was a hole in the "trumpet" on the #2 pipe, but I couldn't see any other damage.....until I pulled the exhaust.  :(

 All but one had some rust through. All completely invisible when on the bike.
 I cleaned up all the rust and treated it with rust converter, even spraying a little inside the holes. Then I patched them using a beer can and JB Weld.

 Followed that up with some sanding and some silver engine paint. All of this should be completely invisible when back on the bike.

 The only visible spot was, like I said, on the #2 trumpet. I didn't want an ugly patch, so I treated it and covered it with a Mercury dime. Mercury, the god of speed! Even the wings are facing the right direction.

Did you ever see a steel beer can ? Must have been nice thick steel.
I've only seen the rusted remains of them from decades ago.

I never stop being amazed how much elbow grease can make some parts that looked beyond use clean up just fine.  Very cool.  They look great.

 Pulled the sprocket cover to clean out the old grease and grime, and to check out the lifter mechanism and pushrod. Pushrod is still in one piece and I lubed up the lifter gear. Feels better already.

 I also started working on the side covers.
- stripped off old clear coat with Eazy Off Oven Cleaner
- sanded in various steps of 3M Skotchbrite pads
- Final pass with 0000 steel wool and some polish
- clear coated with engine paint

 Found the best one in my stash, went over it a couple of times to clean it up a little, then passed it to my beautiful wife for the final touch up.
