HONDA emblems on tank

So I have a nice set of "HONDA" emblems off a 360T. My tank is in progress as far as paint. It's bare metal with a temporary clear coat to keep the rust away. The fastener holes don't line up. Does anyone have a successful way to adhere badges to the tank in this situation? Some kind of heavy duty double face tape. The emblems seem to be made of pot metal so tack welding with that and the thin metal of the tank seems a bad idea. One thought was to make a 1/16" or so strap behind the badge/emblem, tap it for screws and tack the strap to the tank. Ideas?

Use correct badges if tank and badges are for different models.

What kind of "fasteners" hold the emblem? Small screw through the emblem, or does the emblem have pins held by clips? If held by screws, can you redrill the emblem?

Not a bad idea. I had a 76 200T and it was screws that held those on. I picked up some heavy duty 3M tape. Seems like it grabs well. We shall see at 60 mph if it holds up. If not they may be goners. Bought them 5 or 6 years ago at a garage sale for $10. No big loss if they fly off. Although they are really clean and bright for old badges.

The 500s and probably 750s and most others have pins on the emblems. There are little spring clips that go into the holes in the tank to retain the emblems. If you've just painted the tank and it looks good, new emblems aren't that expensive in the big picture, and do set off a nice tank. IMO.

Kev, I haven't looked for new ones in a while. You say they aren't that expensive? Where did you get yours?

 I have tanks with the holes covered over by previous owners and have used the 3m tape. It works fine. I have cut off the pins also.

I got my badges from David Silver Spares, or try Badge Replicas in Australia. I got a set of sidecover badges for my 550 that were otherwise unavailable. They were metal ( I think originals are probably plastic, they are for 500 ) and were really good quality. Price pretty reasonable. If you've got a few grand tied up in your bike, another $120 or so to make it look good probably isn't out of the way.
