For the love of bikes!
« on: June 07, 2022, 05:22:12 AM »
New to this forum but a member of 3 Honda CBX forums. I have 4 bikes ( '79 Honda CBX, Bultaco 350, Yamaha TX750, '77 Honda CB400F). Except for the CBX which I paid $300.00, all others were given to me in rough shape. I have been riding my CBX for 15 years after a full restoration. I have just finished a ground up on the Yamaha TX750 and it looks great although I am not thrilled with the quality compared to Hondas. The Bultaco I finished last year but not being a off road biker it is only on display in my garage. I do all my own work except for machining on engines. Having been through rebuilding 4 CBX engines I think the 400 should not present a problem but I'm sure I will be asking questions on this forum. The '77 400f is not bent up but is in rough shape otherwise. It's yellow but I will be repainting it red if I get the correct paint code.. Keep Well........Doug

Welcome to SOHC4!   We'd like to see pics of your bikes. From what I have heard, the TX750 does not have a good reputation.  I love Yamahas, I have an RD 350.

Start a thread in the "Project Shop" area for the 400F, we can then follow along and answer any questions you may have.

PS. There are no paint codes for these old Hondas but you can find a good match.

TKS FOR THE WELCOME!! I live north of Toronto in the town of Uxbridge but spend 6 months in Florida, not big on snow since I retired. I have many friends throughout the US. I buy most my parts when I'm in Florida, Canada is not a great place to buy stuff.  Yes, the Yamaha had problems in the first two years but were resolved in the last year 1974. Luckily I have a spare engine, both are the fully updated type. My plan is to do a non-concours restoration but it will be done well. I will go over bore on the engine to 450cc unless the cylinders and piston are reasonable, which I doubt...

Welcome aboard Doug.  I looked at the TX in 74 but opted for a Honda and the love of them continued to be etched in me even in the 25 years off bikes raising a family. I've put on 290,000 miles since getting back to riding again in 2010.
