Metric hardware O rings
« on: June 14, 2022, 09:11:39 AM »
I have discovered that two hardware stores in my area carry metric hardware. So far I have noticed that Ace Hardware and Valu Hardware have a pretty impressive assortment. Don't know if those stores are available near you but keep it in mind. Are there other sources that you know of? Other than the usual places are there local stores where metric O rings can be had?

It's not so easy. The USA made a set of standard o-ring sizes and required all military contractors to only use these sizes barring exceptional need for non-standard sizes. There are around 400 and it's unusual to find others in machinery. A supplier often stocks them all.
Nothing like that for metric. There are thousands of relatively common sizes and weird sizes are often used in bikes. Like 1.8mm  cord where a very minor change could use 2.0mm.
Some are difficult to find but any size can be made. But minimum order will be a lot of them. Try online suppliers, unless it's a really odd size they may have stock.
Try the wanted forum, members have bought a few hundred of a size as minimum order and sell them to help out others.

I was looking at those O ring kit assortments. I need a couple 23 x 2.8 O rings. I wasn't sure that the kits had that size. It would be good to have the kit if they have many of the sizes that we need. Placing a mail order for 2 O rings is ridiculous.
