78 750F2 Fuel tap repair
« on: June 18, 2022, 02:13:27 AM »
You can buy the packing for the fuel tap (16955-268-020) which fits 350F, GL1000 and probably others. The fuel tap on my 78 F2 (which is NLA) could do with a new packing I reckon. It is riveted together of course. Anyone know if that packing is 'universal' and fit this tap? Before I destroy it? Thanks

I had a 78 F3 and had to repair the fuel tap.  I was able to drill the rivet top off, just be carefull and don't remove any metal that doesn't have to be removed.
Then the moving part (the handle) will come off.
I used a (I think) 6-32 tap drill to drill down where the rivets are.  ( a drill press made that easier)  Then tap 6-32.
No need to destroy anything.  The fuel tap can be put back together, as it was, except the rivets are gone and the 6-32 screws are holding it together.
I bought an ebay tap that looked similar (there is some risk it may be different) and removed its rubber section.  And installed it in my original tap.
Worked fine.

Thanks, I'm OK with not destroying it, drill and tapping is the easy bit. Does the  packing look like the 350F one?
I would have the original to play with but I had to replace it coz some dropkick stole it off the bike.
While it was parked.
While it was full of fuel.
