Replacement Rear Pegs?
« on: June 16, 2022, 08:02:02 PM »
I'm at the point where I need to order new rear pegs for my '75 550k. I have read that the aftermarket oem-style pegs are poor quality and the originals weren't all that great to begin with. I'd be interested in finding something a little more solid, but very few of the aftermarket pegs are simple bolt-on style.

Any suggestions for a quick, easy, solid replacement? Or should I be looking to buy adapters to use the pivot pin style pegs?

If you want the original rubber pads, Steve at Honda Restoration, in NH, still has the passenger peg rubbers for your bike(and maybeother parts too if you search by part numbers), New Old Stock Parts, he bought up old dealer parts inventory.
You can paint your original brackets that are rusted in the picture.(I looked to see if he had those for you but no he doesn't)

CMSL has the part fiches to get the part numbers, they have some of the parts too but are in Europe,  they buy parts from Hondarestoration.com

David Silver Spares in PA also has some of the parts for the pegs.

It would be relatively inexpensive to have the parts vapor blasted and powder coated and replace the rubbers.  This is what I did when I restored my K6 750.

They don't look like original parts anyway. Originals were better, but most don't get used every day.

One of mine were completely broken off and missing. The other one is unusable. I can source a good used set, but I was wondering if any of you have gone a completely different route and used something else.

I usually just get rid of them altogether...certainly have a set around for "hot chick" emergencies.  After all, these are just old Honda's which generally only attract the attention of reminiscent old dudes that had one "just like that" back in the day.  Not having passenger pegs seems to work well to prevent most unwanted passengers.
If it works good, it looks good...

You know what? I think this is probably the best advice yet. I was thinking the wife may want to ride occasionally but I've also been trying to get her interested enough to get a bike of her own. While a little more expensive than a set of pegs, another bike will do a better job of supporting the extra weight.

For Red I adapted front pegs I had in my stash.  Generally rear pegs are flimsy.

Yep. That's what I'm seeing. There are a bunch of them online that look to be well made, except for one flaw. The bolt is small...usually 8mm. The peg itself is made of solid aluminum...machined/nurled. I don't know why they can't make them just a hair thicker to use, say, a 12mm bolt.

Looking at that example I just posted, it seems to be made slightly different than most of the ones I've seen. I might be able to drill that one out and use a bigger bolt and a nut on it.

Quite often when I am out riding my 750 I'll put my feet back on the passenger pegs just to give my long legs a different perch for awhile and find it comfortable when I change up a little bit.

I do the same and it was something I did back in the 70s
