Key Question
« on: June 30, 2022, 10:56:01 PM »
OK, Amazon appears to sell new ignitions with keys . I need one of those because I bought a bike with no keys. But; what does one do about the seat key? Do o you think a lock smith could create the keys I need?  :(

You don't need a new ignition switch, go to a good locksmith with the numbers from your present ignition switch and they'll be able to cut you some keys to fit both your seat lock and ignition.

Look at your numbers and post in the wanted section here or scroll eBay. I've found keys for my buddy's bikes so they had a spare set before off eBay. Several people over the years have sold keys on the forum as well.

Welcome aboard John G from NH
Where are you from?
Yes a locksmith can cut a new key. But expensive. Don't buy the cheap replacement switch as they have many failures.  Buy from Honda.

But you can usually find new old stock keys from leftover keys the dealers had(4 keys came with each bike and dealers would keep 2). You just need your key number on the ignition switch face.  (T with 4 numbers if it is the original ignition switch!)
Do a web search or eBay search....NOS VINTAGE HONDA PRECUT KEY T.... (with your key number filled in)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/264999105755

Or honda still has full lockets available with ignition, seat, and fork lock.

I believe my ignition switch is not original. No numbers on the face.

My switch numbers are  7M123H. Does that mean it's not original?

Most likely that is an aftermarket replacement switch yes. Finding a key for that will be very difficult. And the seat won't match it either. Get the new set I linked above having all 3 new locks and 2 new keys. (Then get a couple new keys made right away from a local locksmith as spares for yourself, as the new honda sets have different numbered keys than the original locks from the 70s(now having fewer numbers and different letter than the Tand 4 numbers of the 70s.) and you won't be able to find new precut keys anywhere.

WOW. Hey newday777, So I took the switch to a local lock smith. He made me up three keys. When I got the switch and keys home I tried the new keys on the seat release lock and they worked great, Thanks everyone for your input. Machos Gaseous. Till next time.
