Hi all, forgive my newbie question, but do I need to lube/grease the areas where the arrows are pointing? If so, what do you recommend? I assume there is a good lube that won't mix with the engine oil. I had to remove and clean this area out because it was full of gasket silicon from the previous owner, and it appeared to be affecting the shifting. Thanks!

Maybe wrong but I think that whole area is flooded with engine/transmission oil. No further lubrication needed

Yes. that is lubricated by the engine oil.

I lube everything that is intended to move and scuff during assembly so it will not run dry until oil pressure has splashed all moving parts in need of lubrication.

Oil seals too, they will wear if not lubed. The inner and outer  lips.
Same for all oil seals, in fork and wheel hubs too.

I just do a thin wipe of assembly lube to keep things moving until the engine oil runs through.

Thanks! What kind of lube is okay to use? Would some types mix with the oil and plug up oil channels? Or maybe just use regular engine oil as a lube?

Mostly similar oil as used later.

Assembly lube on crank bearings, where shifter forks slide, cam lobes, bearing surfaces.
This will work better the scary moment at first start when oil pressure take longer time. Important that pump is filled with oil and no  blocking air bubble inside.

Lots of silicone in your engine is not the best thing.
Top end rockers and cam are vulnerable due to oil jets in cyl head that might get plugged.
How many miles on this engine since it was rebuilt?

Not sure - I bought it way back in 2013 or 2014 from an estate sale. The odo is stuck at 2500, but I doubt it's accurate. I had the engine running before, but it would rarely shift, thus me opening it up and finding all the silicon around the shifting mechanism. Someone had been there somewhat recently before 2013 though (it seems), because there are a few new parts on it - points, points cover, and front wheel. The master cylinder had been recently rebuilt, too.

I'd be totally taking that motor apart and getting out all the silicone that might be in it before going any further and chancing a crap shoot motor lunch........

Have you done an oil change?
What did you find? In the filter housing?
Have you dropped the oil pan? Checked the screen?

Standard procedure at first start after rebuild is to open an intake valve cover on each end and note splashing oil.
And use the silicone sparingly.
