It had 465(?) miles on it when I bought it.  I think it has almost 8K on it now...in just one year.  I've had 33 100+ mile rides so far this year.

Got the new tires mounted and picked up the new fairing.  The tires are the new Shinko 999’s.  Supposed to be high mileage.  I’ll find out.

It was too hot by the time I got home to do much of anything.  All I could handle was a preliminary fit of the new fairing just to see what it’ll look like.

As you can see, the fairing is unpainted…which means I’ll be waving the paint gun at some point.  It’s looks like it’s been sanded and prepped, ready to go.  I found a few small things that I’ll need to fix/sand, but it looks like a nice part.  Pretty happy with it.  I’m going to install it and take it for a test ride before I paint it.  The windshield that came with it is nothing more than a useless little sliver of acrylic, but I knew that.  I’ve already decided on a taller windshield from Freedom Shields, I just need to figure out how tall.

In the morning I’ll start detailing before I reinstall the wheels.

Sweated on and balanced a new rear tire, to match the front. Sweated is an understatement. The old one was a pig.

How would you compare the Honda with some of the BMW models that are similar?

I’m sure the BMW’s are fantastic machines but I am just too biased. This bike is amazing value/dollar.

The BMW “GS” series bikes are fantastic adventure bikes, I still kick myself for selling my 1995 R1100GS. They are European though so have some issues. The biggest problem was the R1200GS ABS system sh1tting the bed and costing thousands to fix until an Aussie found a “fix” that reduced the cost to around $400 USD. The 1000cc L twin Honda “Varedeo” would be my pick if I could find a good one, the engine was the same as the VTR1000F “Firestorm” which was a great engine, only let down by a dodgy cam chain tensioner which, when the throttle was “blipped” would allow the cam chain to “Whip” causing it to jump a tooth or two on the cam, throwing out the timing and causing pistons and valves to smash into each other.

I have a VTR1000F in my garage that I built from a badly crashed bike, and the previous owner (RIP) had installed an APE solid cam chain tensioner, so that engine should be almost bulletproof. Honda have made some great bikes, but they made a big mistake with their auto cam chain tensioners in both the VTR1000F and VFR800’s when they cheaped out and stopped using gear driven cam’s after the incredible reliability of the VFR750. The VTR1000R SP1 I have, has gear driven cams and were a much better engine. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That seat takes me way back to the late 60's early 70's when we were 10 to 12 yo. The bikers that lived up around the corner used to let us hang out and teach us how to fix bikes. They welded up our extended forks to make our stingray bikes into choppers. 8)
For a bunch of 1%ers they treated my buddy and I really well. If they found out that we had done something bad they chewed us out and threatened to not let us come over. Our dad's were both gone by then so they looked out for us. If our mom's had known they would have freaked out. ;D

That's my buddy I went to his house. He's a old biker.
He rides a 1952 pan he's had for 44 years in the road.  He just lost his son at 31 years of age. I remember riding bikes with his son when I was little. Some days we all just need someone to make a fart joke and get our mind of life.
My buddy always treats my kids like they are his own grandchildren. Bikers from my experience are always the safest people to have around kids.
The pics are from last year my other buddy and I went out to hang out with Terry(the ole biker) this year he sanded the tins down with a flap wheel smoothed them with sandpaper and painted over with blue anodized paint. Made a pretty cool effect.

The panhead has a single disc rear.
My Cb builds both have a single drum rear.
My sporty is a single disc rear.

All rigid. You don't ride as fast and you stay aware. But at the end of the day you don't stop near as fast. Your front brake is 70% of your stopping power.
I've rode rear only most of the years I've been riding so I'm well used to it.

My first bike was a two stroke CZ with drum brakes front and back.  To make it stop you had to brake hard with the front a fraction of a second before the rear brake.

When I upgraded to CBX 750 - loved that bike - first emergency braking sent us skidding down the middle of the road on our arses.   ;D

Neighbor who lived down the street rode choppers when I was a teenager of about 13 and his little sister was a year older. Well, sheriff arrested Kurt one day at entrance to our subdivision, NE TN, and we lived in hilly terrain of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Dianne came and asked me to help her push it up the hill and down the street before it went back down partway to the culdesac they lived on at the end of the street.
Never having been around choppers or familiar with their quirks I learned that day how difficult they were to push on level ground much less up or down a hill when equipped with 8-12 inch over forks like Kurt's cb750 chopper. It was a beast to push anywhere!
Kurt and his older brother were frequent fliers with the local sheriff's department.

Even when I rode dirtbikes I've always been heavier on the rear brake only using the front going uphill or when I needed extra stopping power.
I've had some stock bikes and a few rockets but I always come back to a rigid chopper or bobber.

The v-twin bobber/chopper rigid bikes tend to stop pretty well with just a rear brake.  I don't know if it's the lower center of gravity, or what.  I was used to using a lot more rear brake on my rigid bobber than the front...until one day...the cap popped off my oil tank and oil got all over the back of the bike.  That means no rear brake.  The first time I went to stop without it was quite a surprise, to say the least.  When I managed to pull over I initially though the caliper was leaking, until I lifted the seat and found the oil cap not seated.  It was a rubber stopper sort of thing that was just worn out and a loose fit.

I made it to an auto parts store and bought a couple of cans of brake clean and some paper towels.  I cleaned the back of the bike up as good as I could, but it had no effect on the lack of brakes.  The pads were soaked with oil.  I'm glad I had the front brakes, but they weren't as effective as the rear brakes.  I was on a long ride too and at least 150 miles from home.  I made it back safely.  The bike got a thorough cleaning new pads and a new oil cap.

Nice paintwork. I'm guessing the color will be looking a little different when outside in natural light. Is that a stock color for those bikes?
