Thanks Simon, I’m hoping that I won’t need to take the head off, and maybe use a dremel to grind 1mm off the tip of the valve. It’s the #4 inlet valve, so pretty easy to get to. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The valve should be removed,to grind the tip of the stem completely square.

Thanks Bill, I’ll probably have to, I’ll chuck it in my lathe and use my finger sander to grind 1mm off. ;D

I had hoped to accomplish more this afternoon but a friend of a neighbor showed up with his G30 van hot rod and I joined in to gawk and shake a few hands.
But I pulled the right rocker box and swapped out the afflicted tappet adjust stud. The rocker box is back in place with its 4 bolts finger tight. I'll pick it back up tomorrow.

Thankfully Odin was with me. The Loctite seemed only finger tight when I removed the check nut.

I put a small windscreen on the 77' KZ 1000LTD. I needed something to cut down the wind blast. I had to open up the mounting slots from 10mm to 15mm so the turn signal stems fit. I'm going to install a support rod on each side to eliminate any vibration. I might tilt it back a bit further but I still have to be able to reach the trip meter reset dial.

Nice @Kelly E, I had a similar windshield on a '93 Nighthawk 750 years ago. I used some aluminum bar stock to make clamps and stays, my stays went to the upper corners of the screen and clamped around the fork tubes below the top triple. They were solid but unsightly even after polishing them. I might have run them to the lobes halfway up the screen and it could have looked better.

This is the best photo I can find, not too clear zoomed in though but you can see the struts/stays.

I spent the afternoon working on my Interceptor 650.i got the stripped tapped adjust screw I found replaced and the bike back together and running.

I also swapped on a Tec Stinger 2:1 pipe.
But now I need to figure out a longer clutch cable or route my stock one better.

But it's back together and running after 8 days apart. I'm happy.

I've braced a couple of other fairings. I use 1/8" steel rods and usually attach just far enough up to control the vibration.

I rerouted my stock clutch cable as a short term solution. I've got it held well away from the pipes with zip ties that will soon be replaced with stainless steel ties for heat resistance. I can turn the steering lock to lock and not burn the cable jacket, that's a win. Plus www.venhillusa.com wrote back to me saying that although their cables are built in the UK, they import them to their Texas facility and I can buy an over length cable without paying tariffs, and it seems their prices haven't gone up much since last I looked 2 years ago.

I replaced the nylon zip ties with stainless ties from Hobo Freight, they'll take the heat until I get a longer clutch cable.

And I installed a Koito headlight in place of the cheap stocker.

It's a universal rack, so whatever fits. These have a center bar that will mount a Rotopax style water or gas jug.

I wonder if that could fit the CB750 with some adapting brackets?

It might not be too far off. It uses the upper shock mounts and passenger peg mounts, and there is a crossbar that loops over the rear fender.
I'll have to take some measurements for comparison.

More stripping down. I have a friend coming over this weekend to have a look inside the engine. Time to start prepping the frame for paint.

Is the bar going to the passenger peg bolted to the rack on the side so it could be replaced with a longer bar made to fit the 750 spacing and angle? From your picture it appears to be replaceable??

That bar is welded, the flat step-like bag support portion bolts on though, so maybe with some fabrication that can be made to work.

I'm experimenting with a few windshields this weekend, this is a cheap Puig from Amazon https://tinyurl.com/mtksyadp I set the angle pretty steep and took it for a highway ride, it's an improvement up to 70mph but after that there is a Handlebar shake that makes me want to add a quarter turn on the steering stem nut. I'll jack up the front wheel tomorrow and have a look and a test ride, then maybe I'll lean it back a little and try that out. It's not a tall shield and I'm not looking for a miracle. It's just the first one to try out. More to come.

I gave my steering stem nut 1/8 turn and took a ride, that little wobble at 75mph is much reduced.
Then I bolted on a different windshield, not sure the brand, got it for free from a friend. It's much better than the Puig I tried yesterday and I'll keep it. Then I leaned my handlebars back 5/8" and adjusted the clutch perch and front master cylinder to put my mirrors back in a useful position. Adjusted the clutch cable again to leave some slack and adjustability at the clutch perch. (I'd noticed some slipping at WOT in 6th gear)
It's all good now and I'm thinking about tearing the forks down to do the mods I've collected parts for.
