I replaced the starter on the good old '93 R100GS-PD about a month ago after it crapped out on me down in the Owyhees.  One of the pleasures of this bike is the ease of working on it.  Not that it needs that much -

I install my new Ikon shocks in the GL1000.



They work great, and are an improvement over the Monroe Air shocks.

Nice. I wish when I sold mine back in 2014 that I had been smart enough to pull the Koni's I had installed and put the old stockers back on.

I had to repair the speedometer on my XS650 recently so I thought I'd give it a sixty mile test today.
I think it might need more testing tomorrow.

I thought I'd get in one more ride before snow but it didn't happen, late this morning at 33F my ignition key switch seemed frozen, key wasn't inserting fully so I didn't pursue it any further. I yanked the battery and put on my new cheapo cover which was probably not up to the task. I put my 21 year old Nelson Rigg cover on over it and secured them both. Hopefully I'll wake it up in March on a warm, sunny day and won't need to buy a battery.

Looks good Ranger. That "fuel station" does not look familiar but guessing its in the Dripping Springs area.

I entertained the idea over the years of getting a motorcycle lift but never did because of their large footprint.  Glad I didn't because the 4 post lift actually freed up space, plus makes a great bike lift.  The 4 post lift makes  a better bike lift than a dedicated one, IMO. Here is the Road King with all the drain plugs at eye level.  Pretty handy.

So yesterday I pulled all the batteries out of the bikes and brought them in the house since shop isn't heated and it's going to be below freezing for a couple of days.

That’s awesome.  I had a four post lift briefly in my previous shop back in Houston.  It was there when we moved in.  I sold it soon after and eventually bought a motorcycle lift.

Picked up this 72 Yamaha R5C in December but haven't really done anything with it since then. With temps in the 60s yesterday I decided to see if I could get it to fire after I got home from work. Unfortunately I couldn't elicit any signs of life, electrical or otherwise. But at least it felt good to be outside playing with motorcycles on a beautiful day in February!

 I got the swingarm pivot bolt that I'd been waiting to come for the GS1100E. I polished it up, thank goodness it had been painted flat black and wasn't corroded like it appeared in the ebay ad.

Picked up this 72 Yamaha R5C in December but haven't really done anything with it since then. With temps in the 60s yesterday I decided to see if I could get it to fire after I got home from work. Unfortunately I couldn't elicit any signs of life, electrical or otherwise. But at least it felt good to be outside playing with motorcycles on a beautiful day in February!

   This was my first road bike way back in '75. Same exact color and all, it started every time 2nd kick. My 2nd two stroke bike was an 75 rd350 with the r5 topend graphed on it, it was a screamer with but with the 6 sp of the rd, a lot of fun to ride.
    Your r5 looks fantastic....

Did the R5C top-end(cyls./pistons)give you as much as the RD 7-port reed valve top-end ?

Thanks! I had been looking for this exact model & color combo for a while. While I wouldn't say I got much of a deal on the price, this was a rare case of the bike actually looking better in person than it did in the pictures. Looking forward to experiencing my first 2 stroke.

Definitely won't be taking it out of the neighborhood until it's had a leak test. I've also been reading up on checking and adjusting the autolube pump. Would hate to ruin a nice low mileage motor.

Yes, that is very important. Some guys run pre-mix 'til they know it's working just to be safe.
