Installed a Tytronic electronic advance ignition on my CL350.
It works as advertised, for now.

I do enjoy fiddling with points, gap, dwell and timing….. Having said that, every time I install one of these, I wonder why I bother! Slick.

I’m reviving the VTR1000F “Streetfighter” build I started 8(?) years ago when I bought a badly crashed VTR1000F with all the plastics destroyed to build a poor mans Ducati S4 Monster, before I eventually bought two S4’s. The carbs and tank got a clean and it fired right up. Just need to install the OEM exhausts and replace the front MC, and it should be good for a sneaky ride. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah, an FYI about these. The points cover will contact and apply pressure to the pickups if a stock gasket is used.
This is bad and alters the timing and probably will contribute to early failure. The solution is to use a thicker (~3mm+) gasket.

Still a work in progress. Seat is out for a new cover. The swing arm is going to come out to check the bearings and re-grease them then a coat of paint. Exhaust system refurbish to follow.  New throttle cables on Santa's sleigh. Cliff.

G’day Steve, I had a ‘98 model with all the factory plastics and loved the big “L Twin” grunt, handling and brakes, but the ergonomics didn’t suit me at all, I could only ride it for an hour or so and my back, shoulders and wrists would kill me. I traded it and a couple of grand for a car when I was in Canberra.

A few months later I saw a very badly crashed ‘06 model going cheap (like me) so bought it. It was a stat write off so I couldn’t re-register it, but luckily for me I found a titled frame at a wreckers in Sydney so swapped across all the mechanicals which were good. The bike had slid down the road and hit a pole, so the tank was crushed so badly that it smashed the rear cylinders cam cover underneath. I hope the rider survived.

I purposely didn’t replace the plastics because I bought a special top triple clamp from Germany that allowed me to install higher handlebars, bought a nice tank, Corbin seat and a tiny fairing/headlight unit with indicators built in, replaced the damaged master cylinders with Ebay cheapies, but I actually think it looks pretty good. The PO had spent a lot of money on aftermarket adjustable rearsets, alloy velocity stacks, and manual cam chain adjusters, which are essential for the longevity of these bikes, as the only fault with VTR1000F’s are the failure prone OEM automatic adjusters. It also had Yoshimura slip on mufflers, although one was destroyed in the crash so I had to find another one and adapt it to fit.

Last night I installed some OEM mufflers because the Yoshi’s won’t pass the noise level test when I take it in for a Roadworthy Inspection. While I was trawling thru Facebook Marketplace I saw a Honda Varadero going cheap and contacted the owner and I’m going to swap my Yamaha DT250 for it on Monday. It will need some TLC and a paint job, but should be a great adventure bike, so I’ll paint it black and swap the plate between it and my current one as they’re both 2006 models so the cops won’t know the difference. (I hope)

Ironically I gave up on this project 8 years ago after badly burning my leg on the exhaust, and last night after installing the OEM pipes, I managed to burn it again. From now on, any time I’m working on it I’ll wear long pants.

Bill, I still have both Ducati S4’s. I sold the red one to my son, so Spotty and I are working on the black one, so that my son and I can go for a ride together. Anyway it’ll be nice to finally get the Honda on the road. ;D

Terry, they make a silver infused cream specifically for burns…it will speed healing of your burn and lessen chances of infection. Silver is naturally antimicrobial

Time to tackle the rear end.New wheel bearings ordered, swing arm internals look good after a good cleaning thanks to volume of grease in there. Based on the condition of the rear bearings, front wheel bearings are ordered too. Things have slowed a bit since my wife fell and broke her hip. She tries hard but needs a lot of help around here.

Thanks Steve, the weather is on my side at the moment, I started machining some missing Ducati parts on Friday morning before it got too hot, then had a shower before going shopping for another BBQ and stuff to take over to the mother in laws place for Christmas day’s barbecue, then sat under the cooler vent as it was around 90 degrees, then after dinner still had plenty of sunlight so finished installing the OEM exhaust system to the VTR1000F.

Of course I had to fire it up, and was pleased that it is now close enough to Roadworthy that I can actually get it on the road after hibernating in my garage since early 2016. It’s that old “Make hay while the sun shines” thing, I want to get as many of my projects done or sold before winter. ;D

I would have thought not Bill, because my ‘98 VTR1000F had 4 pot calipers but I’m going to pick up another’06 model tomorrow and it had 6 piston calipers too? ;D

will you get enough air going through the radiators terry? the fairing directs air through on the standard bike , without the fairing the air might pass across the radiator without going through it .
