Beautiful 1100!
If it didn't already have an O2 sensor, how will it be used?

I have an autometer gauge on the handlebars, it reads out digitally and with a color bar graph. It also has a digital memory that I can check later. It seems the carbs came jetted very well when new. My probe was reading rich and led me astray.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Is it damaged? Or just routine freshen up?

I finally finished installing the National F-16 windscreen on the 77' KZ 1000 LTD. I needed something to block the wind blast. I like the basic design but the quality control could be better. I knew I would have to alter the mounting slots because of moving the front turn signals from the bars to the headlight mount. I had to open the slots up from 10mm to 15mm. I wasn't happy with the amount of vibration at the top of the windscreen and how easily I could push it back further so I made braces for the upper part.
I used some handlebar clamps from an old busted windscreen, some rubber lined 3/16" P clips and a couple pieces of 3/16" rod. I drilled 4mm holes in the upper part of the windscreen to mount the P clips. With an inch of the rods bent about 110° to fit in the P clips and the bottom goes into the bar clamps. I have used this method for other fork/handlebar mount fairings, it works great.

A bit of cleaning and the frame is ready for paint prep and waiting on a friend to go through his Triumph stuff that I can have. This may be a long term project.

What really amazes me is that as of January, 2001 was 25 years ago.

This one was a year round daily rider for a mechanic at a local bike shop so it's got some miles on it.

Got it all mocked up w the GS Dakar's suspension. Still have to get a 21" front wheel and weld on a bracket for a chain roller that the standard GS frames don't have.

I’ve been busy clearing my property for new fences, then after the fences went up I got sidetracked from bikes when I bought another twin turbo Subaru with a blown turbo and spent a week crawling around under it to replace the blown turbo.

Last week I picked up my seat for my Yamaha VMax from the upholstery shop and installed it, probably the single biggest upgrade (and most expensive) that I’ve done on it so far. The previous owner had painted the side covers flat black and they looked awful so I stripped the paint off and gave the aluminium covers a quick polish. Just waiting for new badges now, and I’ll call it good.
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks guys, it's close between the VMax and my Kawasaki ZZR1100, the VMax would keep up (or beat the Kawasaki to) 140 MPH, maybe 150, but the Kawasaki will happily run up to 170. I have been collecting a few parts for the Kawasaki and last week remembered that I had some gold Tokico 6 pot calipers in a box. I wondered if they'd fit the Kawasaki, and was 'rapt that the bolt holes all line up.

Terry's ZZR1100 brake conversion Jan 2026 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

The first issue was that the ZZR1100 standard calipers have two 10mm fine mounting bolts, whereas the ZX14(?) caliper bolts are 8mm, so I made some spacers.

And the caliper now fits straight on:

I bought the cheapest possible brake pads and they arrived a few days later. I've just ordered new Venhill hoses (in Kawasaki Green) and once they arrive I'll install the calipers and new lines. I'd installed some 1" handlebar risers last year, and bought a custom "powerbronze" black fairing screen with a bit of a lip on it to (hopefully) redirect the wind blast over my head, it's pretty had to keep your head still at 170 MPH with the stock fairing screen blasting wind into your face and neck. I installed the new screen with some "Kawasaki Green" lightweight screws that Spotty gave me.

Everything seemed to fit OK, I must take it for a ride again soon. ;D
