Selling a motorcycle on Ebay
« on: July 17, 2022, 07:19:39 AM »
I have never listed a motorcycle for sale on eBay, years ago I sold some vintage motorcycle parts, small antiques, etc., and became overwhelmed with the hidden fees that came around every month.  I would be very interested in hearing input from any of you guys that have actually successfully sold a bike through their listings.  What is the actual cost, besides the listings package is there any commission on the final sale, payment other than PayPal, and of course the dreaded shipping conundrum, in my case I would really prefer direct pick up.  I have visited the selling sight, but there is nothing like hearing from those who have been there and done that......

New tax law this year that says for most online payments anything over $600.00 in a year now you will get you a 1099 that you will need to report. Used to be a $20,000 dollar cap before a 1099. Just more crap to deal with and consider. Paypal family and friends is excluded from the cap.

The other side of the coin: you do get truly international exposure. I sold the “Carlini Hardhead” Chopper on EBay, a year ago. Listed it for no reserve, but the opening bid amount was what I wanted for it. Sold to a great buyer in Indianapolis. The fees were reasonable and i was pleased.

Suggest you include phone number in your ads “for anyone needing more information”. I’ve sold a few items months later to people that called back afterwards.....

I would like to list a phone # in my listings but thought Ebay blocks that info?

I wouldn't be afraid to sell a really nice bike on E-bay because like you say good exposure is everything and people with good money find it very convenient.

I just put it in the body of the description and it appears.

I sold my Roysl Enfield Bullet via eBay in 2007 and my 77 550K via eBay in 2011. The Enfield buyer drove up from Texas, the 550 buyer from South Carolina. I sold the FJ1200, GL1000, and 550F via Craigslist to local buyers. These days Facebook Market might be the route I would choose. The out of town eBay buyers sent deposits and paid for the rest in cash. Both were good transactions.

Last bike I advertised on Facebook Marketplace ended up going to Japan. The gentleman that bought it stopped in at my place this spring for a visit when he was in the USA and I sold him another.  :D  Member Sean happened to be  there and got to meet him also. I made a good contact for more easy sales if I ever wish to do so.
