CB750 K5 Brown/Red(stripe) wire???
« on: July 20, 2022, 12:40:56 PM »
Why is there no Brown/Red(stripe) wire in the wiring diagram in the Honda Service manual, Chilton or the Clymer repair manuals in the wire harness?
There is one from the left hand control, horn/headlight and 2 wires in the head light bucket( barrel jackets(2) have a yellow/clear halfed protector on each of the 2 BR/Red wires to the harness?
I changed the handlebars to shorter 2" rise and my headlight wasn't working after plugging in everything but there's confusion in where the Br/Red wire plugs into.
There was also a short Brown wire w/2 male ends and a white sleeve on one end. But nothing showing this in the diagram.  I happened to have my K6 bars and looked at the wires coming out of the bars hanging up, I noticed that Brown/Red wire had a yellow sleeve over the end on that male connector. Then I remembered that the short Brown jumper was plugged in one of the Brown/Red w/yellow/clear sleeve and in the brown 4 way. So I tried that and got the wiring right so the headlight works again.
Dang that was a head scratcher...... 😳 😕

All down to the US requirement to have headlamp on all the time

It is shown on the US model wiring diagrams I believe, definitely for the 400F. The harness is made for having a headlight on/off switch. Then always-on headlight rules came in for the USA and Canada. Honda deleted the on/off switch (and its wiring) but did not change the harness, they just put an odd jumper (some have the different colors spliced together, some have a ring on one end) poked into the sleeving for the switchpod wires. It isn't held in by anything and easily falls out plus replacement switchgear does not have it.

 What Bodi said!
I added the euro headlight switch (off, park, on) and front parking lamp in the headlight to a US sold cb400F. Once I removed the jumper, everything just plugged-in color to color.

I know all too well of the change in 1976 K6 CB750 (and other models of the headlight on all the time )but as the title says- this is for the 1975 K5 CB750, prior to the change.  And yes this is the US model as well as are the repair and service manuals and their wiring diagrams.

Could be a late K5 with K6 parts or changed during its life

No. I've known it since 1976. 2 brown/red wires in the main harness

I had mentioned that I checked my other bike K6 for the brown/Red wire

I'm thinking I remember someone telling me that starting with the 6th month of the earlier year forward:like 6/74' onward is a 1975'?

Yes that is where I got mixed up
