Topic: Petcock brass "ON" tube.

This is actually for a CB450, but would be SOHC four relevant.

I am missing (ok, I broke it) the tube that is pressed into the petcock that makes reserve possible. Is there any source for these tubes? I found nothing searching. I guess i could live without reserve, but i have been wrong in the past.

The tube is usually what draws fuel when in the “on” position. Reserve allows fuel (and lots of crap) in from the hole in the base of the petcock. Just tap the original back in place. It doesn’t have to be super tight. A drop of red loctite (on the outside of the tube) won’t hurt. Or maybe time for a replacement petcock?

If the tube is wrecked, most hardware stores (worth their salt) sell pieces of brass tubing.

!/4" brass tubing can be a touch loose.
If it is, you can flare it open lightly with a tapered punch.
You want a mild press fit.
Unless you have faith in adhesives.

Just curious, what year?  I have a '67...

Hobby shops (ones that have modelling stuff) normally carry balsa wood and brass tubing in around 12" lengths. The balsa wood is not useful here but I like to pick some pieces up and be impressed by its lightness. If you have a bit of the original tube, take it and get the closest diameter. If it broke off and a stub is left in the petcock, try to get that out then just tap the part snapped off back in the hole. If it won't come out use a tube that fits inside it. The final result doesn't need to be pretty. It will be a bit shorter so you'll have a bit less fuel if/when you switch to reserve.
You do want a reserve. bad enough checking maps for the closest station and hoping you make it. Much worse when it leans out ... and you know it's time to push the bike or leave it and find gas somehow.

Its a 1974.

I actually found an old kawasaki petcock i had that was damaged but had a good tube. It was a little wider, but i was  able to drill out the petcock on the honda for a press fit.

I actually have run out of gas twice for not having a reserve. One tube was split, and one was missing altogether. Now i check
