What is correct float height in cc’s for CB750s?
« on: July 18, 2022, 09:01:09 AM »
As in, if the floats are correctly adjusted, how much fuel in the bowls does that equate to?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

I believe my 76 carbs are set to 26mm but it's been a while.

If you know your floats are correct why not pull a bowl and measure it? Or am I not understanding your question?

Back 'in the day' there was lots of guys hoping to do this method to check their float bowl depths by measuring the drained amount in CCs.
Didn't work because the first one drained gets most of the fuel line, too, and the next one(s) don't.

Mark if he really wants to know could he do the clear tube test then mark his bowl on the outside then pop them off fill them to the mark and measure that? I don't know why someone would want to do that. I just have mine about 2 to 3 mm below the top edge of the bowl. I've always thought that was close enough with stop and go left and right turns hard lean overs pot holes moving the gas all over the place. But the plugs will tell me what's up. So I guess you would do the test in the shop on the center stand?

Knowing the correct ccs is somewhat useless, as you cannot measure it accurately.

Draining the bowls opens the float valve, dumping in fuel from the fuel lines, and corrupting measurements.

That’s why the clear tube method tells you what you want to know, the fuel level in the float bowl, which is what the carb jets really react to.

The clear tube method is a good way to discover the depth of the fuel in the bowls, no doubt about that.
I've been too lazy to make a tube setup like that for mine - mostly becuase it runs fine! :)

also dont forget the float level isnt dead critical, plus or minus a little isnt a worry, imagine your nice perfectly precision set floats in your garage all lovely, then riding the bike you take off fast n hard, all the fuel sloshes rearward and gathers up at the rear of the bowl, then you bank left and brake and the fuel goes forward and right somewhat?then you hit a ripply road and its vibrating it all around, picture a dirt bike getting airbourne and all the rough terrain its a washing machine inside the bowl?the float height isnt dead critical, dont overthink it!
