Guys I have a confusing problem. Rebuilt the engine on my 400 4. When trying to set the points and static time TDC/Firing point on No/1&4.  Points are opening on 2&3?? Checked valve timing, seems to be ok. (valves rocking TDC/1) Any idea's where I'm going wrong??

It sounds like the points cam on the spark advancer is backward: it can be installed 180 degrees 'out of phase', so to speak. Just pull off the points cam from the advancer and turn it 1/2 turn and reinstall. (But, you have to remove the points plate to get at it...   ).

Thanks for the reply Hondaman. I was sort of thinking along the same.
Haven't time to get back in the shed yet, but I'll let you know the outcome.

A much simpler solution is to swap the yellow and blue wires and be done with it.
