Terry, your off season of a few weeks is minimum 5 months over here, Nov-March. This year extended to mid April.

That was not a problem back in the 80's due to the very expensive insurance.

Yeah mate, I was looking at a Youtube video of a Swedish guy who's fighting with the Ukraine army against the Russians, and he was concerned about what it was gonna be like fighting in winter. I hope it's over by winter and the Russians all fcuk off home. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Even Alexander the Great got bogged down in the mud of spring in Ukraine. It is legendary for grinding to a halt any war efforts there...

We here in the desert SW have to take pauses to riding or abbreviate it due to winter temps unless you have heated gear or bundle up like an Eskimo and the summer heat and the monsoon rains also impact things.
But, by and large we are blessed with quite an extended season of riding if you layer and deal with the cold of winter and deal with some heat and rainy weather. Other than the first few rains after a long spell of super dry weather it is safe to ride in the rain if you take normal precautions. Problem is the aggressive idiots in the city have accidents with motorcycles weekly and seriously injury or kill you. So, I try to be very cautious and smart about when I choose to ride in the city. Still, sooner or later I may not be so fortunate and end up as big splatter on someone's fender or windshield...the risk of keeping my sanity riding.

I suspect that coming winter will be cold. That has happened before after a hot summer.

Summer 2010 followed by winter 2010-2011 a good example.

One month ;) My house heating system started a few days in July... ;) Spring cold too.
Lots of people have forgotten hot summerdays in the past.

I guess it's what you're used to, but I really, really, hate winter. If my wife ever kicks me out, I'll be moving to Brisbane. The sun's out today though, so I'll finally be going for a ride again, woohoo! ;D

Worst in winter is the darkness. Really short days for 4 months.  Plus too long days June and July with sleeping issues.

But latitude 60* north could have been even worse. It is after all parallel to southern tip of Greenland.

On top of all this, I hate winter too ;)

Got the Triumph out a couple of times this week. Bike night on Thursday and a Sunday afternoon ride through the country.
Like I said, it's always fun when I convince myself to go.  I even got in a decent shakedown run on the XS650.

Sometimes you gotta force yourself a bit.  I work from home nowadays.  It grows on you and leaving the property feels weird, but last weekend I did Skyline drive and run around and it felt really good.

And I run my errands with the sidecar as much as possible, go places where I see other bikers to show off - not many sidecars around here - and I am a shallow man.  ;D

One thing do do loathe is seeing stuff gather dust and deteriorate from not being used. I think everyone here knows that a sitting bike (or old car) is not a happy bike.

Once in a while I get to the point where I get tired of having so much stuff, and go through a purge.  I am not sure why I need 3 jeeps, or three pickups.  So far I can justify 4 motorcycles to myself because they each fill a different niche.  And I have enough project vehicles that I am nor sure I am going to live long enough to see them all done.  These are what are called First World problems.

My CJ7 is on veterans tags and slowly falling apart, I am ready to hand it to my son when he has the space for it. I did frame up on it once and now it´s just a work horse I use to pull trailer with and do logging and such.  And I had the jeep bug really bad before I got back to motorcycles on this side of the ocean.

I used to say that jeeps were the only thing on 4 wheels that approached the fun of motorcycles.  That was before the side by sides got to such high performance.  My brother sold his built CJ5 after he bought his RZR 1000.  Even with all the expensive stuff on the CJ, it couldn't touch the RZR.  That thing is amazing.  The price was amazing too.  And they are a little like buying a Harley.  You buy the thing, then spend a lot more replacing suspension, wheels and tires, hopping up an already strong turbocharged motor, etc.  But holy #$%* the thing is fast, and it goes almost anywhere.

Work from home is work too ;)
Garage a few meters away ;D
Lunch ride possible too. Just check if there are any meetings direct after lunch before ride decision.

Those days I have to visit the office physically is harder though. But OK while there.

Yes. I do lunch rides just to look at something else but my monitors for a while.  Or I ride to the range and drop some steel silhouettes.

Good idea Per, all of my registered bikes are at the self storage garage, but with the warmer weather coming soon I’ll leave my Z1-B at home so I can sneak out for a quick lunch time ride, once it’s road legal. ;D

And I had the jeep bug really bad before I got back to motorcycles on this side of the ocean.

Hey Greg...I think you been driving the 4-door sedans too long then.  I jump in my "ol Chevy" and when driving 80 mph through the hills, it seems like I am flying!  Very exhilarating.

:)  Hey, I like to kid that my Crown Vic P71s are like driving 4000 lb sports cars.  But really it isn't too far off the mark.  They handle surprisingly well.   How I got into CVPIs is a long story, but my first introduction to them was in an emergency vehicle operation course at the Idaho POST academy here in Meridian 11 years ago.  I was a little amazed with what they could do for such a big car.  All they need is 150 more HP to make them even more fun.  But as BMW used to say, power is adequate.

I have more cars than bike, so their allure isn't lost on me.  I drive my son's breathed on C5 or my brother's M Roadster when I get the chance.  I get the urge for my own vette occasionally, but so far I have successfully fought off the temptation.  I have 5 Ford flathead V8's out there and I may build a project around the best one if I live long enough.

Have the best of both worlds Greg, put a flathead Ford V8 into a bike. There was a really nice chopper here that I saw at a show with a Flathead Ford V8 in a Harley frame, and if not for the price tag, it would have been mine. ;D

I've seen 2 or 3 Boss Hoss-type flathead V8 bikes over the years.  There is not a lot of power to be had from the old flathead by today's standards, but there is nothing else that sounds like a souped up flathead Ford and it looks like nothing else.  Whatever I do, the engine will be visible.

I feel the nice aroma farmers around here have spread on their fields the last weeks. Smells like pig #$%*!!! Really strong smell ;D

The temperature differences is a nice feeling.
I remember rides in rather cold weather, enter a forest where warm air was trapped. Really nice when freezing.

When I was without motorcycle, rides in the jeep without top and doors reminded me riding a bike - the cold air in valleys, the smell of hay in summer - you dont get it in a car.

Yes, plus the fun of getting through or over something challenging.  Or getting stuck for hours in the middle of nowhere with only your ingenuity and whatever you have at hand to get you out.

Here's a pic of my uncle's '42 Willys MB stuck in the Escalante River circa 1950.  I have that jeep here.
