I learned to sit on my shoes like those guys when I was a service plumber, later I carried a shower curtain for a drop cloth. I could crab walk in a crawl space but never could do that bird squat for any length of time.
I did a pipefitting job in a Japanese owned bearing factory once, (NTN Bower) there was oil in the air from the quench hardening and machining processes. Every floor fan had a puddle of oil under it and there were blisters in the paint in the rafters and beams. If you poked them they were like oil zits. My boss was one of those wingtip shoe wearing guys. I suggested he leave the $$ shoes in the car or slip on his rubbers. After a week I could taste the oil even before I got there in the morning. Thank goodness when the hard part was done, I got moved on to a new project.
