rebuild/ clean oil pump 71' cb750
« on: March 07, 2007, 08:55:36 AM »
bought the bike used and it was not running.  i have the bike torn down to just the engine intact.  i was not planning on tearing it apart but my question is since i do not know the condition of the oil pump and the bike has not been started in years should i take the oil pump out and try and rebuild or tear down and soak clean and put it back together and reinstall.  thanks

Hook up a manometer or trust the idiot light
replace the oil filter
kickstart it about 10 times with the killswitch off.
Idiot light shold go out or manometer wil show > 7 psi.
That means the pump is ok. (99,9% it will as this is some solid piece of enginering)

Start her up and have fun.
